You didn't reply to my previous reply.thanks but i was just asking a simple question to thse who might know the answer. Why do some of my post go in to these long chains - with some fireworks.I definitely didn't try and instigate any fireworks. Messages which are not relevant can be ignored -is that too high an expectation.

I did. Give it some godforsaken time. I have only two hands and five fingers in each.

You didn't acknowledge the help offered to you and worse yet you SHOUTED.

I do wish people could have ignored it, but you can't really be telling what should be others doing on the internet, especially when you do silly things.

Number of users doesnt matter, even you have 7 mil users, it will handle. the question is how many are online at the given point of time? if around 3000 users are online at the same time, it will handle it. (again it depends how complex the site is, and how much database access / calculations are required to satisfy one user request) you can always use Load/Stress Testing tools on the website before launching it. I always stree test my web applications with atleast 5000 users for most common workflow.

Why is it that when someone points out your faults, you turn it around trying to divert it to prove that someone else doing something wrong? If you can't correct yourself without we "fixing" the problems of others, we could may be talk about the "problems" of other people first. Merrens told you in a less than polite manner to behave properly, because you were impolite, and you SHOUTED at someone who was trying to help. I see that his reaction is normal, because he's one of the regulars here, and the regulars here (most of them) don't take it well when someone (especially a relatively new person) doesn't play it well. If you're going to be impolite towards others, expect nothing less it in return. Now, can we talk about your problem? Can you behave politely, and NOT SHOUT?!

I didn't shout out .Languages can have nuances and I just highlighted that it was not technical enough. There could be an answer more detailed than that.May be shouting out is a term old timers are more familiar with than me.

The Code Project is hosted on 7 web servers running Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 2003 R2. Each box has between 2 and 4 Gb RAM and runs standard hyperthreaded desktop-level intel chips. The web servers connect to heavy duty multi-CPU, mutli-core SQL servers running SQL 2008 R2 THIS IS NOT TECHNICAL enough

It's not clear - how many cpu's for the Windows server. How many CPU's for the db server? How much total Ram. How many simultaneous people can the the present config handle?

What is the minimum server configuration to keep a site like codeproject running for 50,000 simultaneous users. Nos of procs for the windows server and nos of procs for the Sql Database server and amount of Ram. Now dont look at my signature - it's a defence for the Irrational downvotes that I keep getting.

You did. When you're typing on a computer, typing something in all capital letters is equivalent to shouting.

There are better ways to say it - like "Thanks, but I could use some more details like [whatever specific details here]. Can you help?". Alternatively, you could pay a consultant to give you expert estimates, which will be technical enough, and more accurate.

My 9 year old niece knows not to type it in all capitals while on the internet. I don't think of her as an old timer. It's just that you have to learn how to be polite.

I must get a clever new signature for 2011.

Guess what? Most people won't have to read through all that "religious" stuff to participate, because they treat others with respect, and are polite. That essay is for people who are challenged in terms of online etiquette. But if you can't be polite AND won't read through the religious stuff, you will be treated very roughly. So, either behave yourself, or have a thick skin to take up all the roughening. Don't be impolite and then whine about the aftermath.
