I have the impression that Afghanistan and India were British territories. Could be wrong though. In any case, clearly the people of Waziristan are culturally very close to those in Afghanistan so its not surprising that there is collaboratin between them.

If you read about the formation of Pakistan you will see it is because the Muslims were unhappy with being forced to live under Indian rules and wanted their own country. And what a paradise they made it into.

The French hardly have clean hands: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sykes%E2%80%93Picot_Agreement[^] The Brits wanted to keep their end of the bargain with the Arabs, but keeping the French sweet during the WWI was more important. Don't know why their army was only good for going backwards. This is the root cause of a lot of the mess here. Or at least certain muslims were and saw Indian independence as a way to gain power.

But the Sykes Picot Agreement only concerned the Ottoman Empire. Afghanistan and Pakistan were not part of that pact.

So? The same people who only live in different countries due to lines on the map drawn up by foreigners, completely describes the Levant area. You threw the accusation at the British (who happened to be in charge of Pakistan) I'm throwing it at the French, arguably the Skyes-Picot agreement has *caused* more *consistent* problems here, whereas Afghanistan has been a total mess[^] for ages.

No no no. Look at the map on the wiki page you linked to, Afghanistan and Pakistan are not part of that. The French in NO way had any part to play in Afghanistn and Pakistan.

Oh dear, how dare those naughty people use kidnapping, murder, and torture to maintain their hegemony! They should do what those western troops you so admire did in Iraq, such as... oh, wait, they did exactly the same thing. In anycase, why do you pretend to get so angry about it, what do you care? Or is it just part of your quest for cheap virtue for which you will use any readilly condemnable activity to your adbantage, such as here with Pakistan, and a few weeks ago Paedophile priets?

Curious. Instead of reading what I actually said, you assume I accused the French of meddling in Afghanistan: I didn't (unless, for some reason, you think Afhganistan is in the Levant, which it isn't) and never did. I gave an example of the French doing the same thing elsewhere.

Well, if what you actually said was that the French were in Syria, then its not teribly relevant to your original response to my post about the British being responsible for Pakistan. Of course if you want to make it a general discussion rather than a debate you shouldnt have responded to my post in a contrary way. :)

What a weak argument, *you* never mentioned Pakistan until OrginalGriff replied, you just a general comment about the British policy of partition in reply to a post that *was* made about Pakistan. You seem to want to keep a narrow-minded argument, the French colonial history a bit dodgy by any chance :)

"Why the Taleban get so much support, Because the Pakistan government is no better" :Trollslayer "Because they are the same people who only live in different countries due to lines on the map drawn by Britain?" : Me As for France its not part of this discussion. If you want to open it wider to include France you can of course.... Oh, hang on, when you said 'France blah blah blah' its because you thought me mentioning Britain was a dig, and that you, assuming I am French, and getting all defensive, have a dig back. No, it wasnt a dig at Britain, just a statement of fact that the people of the two countries are very similar.

Actually, almost every country on earth, including Pakistan, has used murder, kidnapping, and torture to further it's advancement and control. Religion and racial discord have usually been the lead causes with money coming in right behind it. My opinion of course. ;)

They are not the same people. That is like saying the French are like the Spanish, or the English are like the Scots. Both Pakistan and Afghanistan are made up of many different smaller tribes, rather than one big country split in two.

I know, but as I stated elswhere in this thread, Waziristan (in Pakistan) shares a common culture with the Taliban of Afghanistan so its not surprising they have support there. And who put the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan?

It will do. Too many do-gooders with no back-bone.

I saw a documentary on TV about the English Defense League. It seems that the populace is not as spine less as the politicians.

Yes but they are extreme, all it needs is a party to stand up and say no more immigration, its not racist its just sensible step for an island country to make.
