"He could invade"

Tshabalala-Msimang, our health minister, thinks[^] that Mr. Bush and his cronnies are a bigger threat to South Africa (yes, that little country on the southern tip of Africa) than HIV... If today was 1 April I would have thought that article was a funny April Fools day prank. But alas, no, today is 19 December and deadly serious Tshabalala-Msimang she is. I love South Africa. Sublime place to live. The land, the ocean, the animals, the plants. All incredible, cannot be topped anywhere else on Earth. The common man is a friendly, warm, loving kind. We smile, we frollick in the sea, we welcome tourists, we are kind to small animals. But our government can say the most incredibly dumb things. Bush has his moments with his witty comments, but at least fundamentally what he says makes sense, for the most part. Now lets say SA actually was an Axis of Evil country and Bush was planning to "invade." Our government thinks buying some 12 foot submarines and a couple extra Hunter Hawkers is going to stop the might of the US army, navy and airforce. I shudder to think what they are saying to each other behind closed doors when they say such things in public.

If this is the same US that insists prices on HIV drugs must be kept up, yet after 5 people died from anthrax talked about breaking patents on Cipro (most effective antibiotic)......... Sadly, she may have a point :( The tigress is here :D

Trollslayer wrote: Sadly, she may have a point Yes the HIV drug prices are not helping, yes the US is not being very helpful in that matter. But buying R4.5 billion in new military hardware is not going to help in any way, shape or form. Our health minister is saying we should rather buy new submarines to defend our land against an invading Bush than spend the money on buying anti-retrovirals. They complain about the health budget being woefully inadequate (couple million Rand) but then they go and buy submarines, new fighter jets and long range artillery pieces. Then they look to us Joe Public who do pay our taxes and ask why we aren't donating more of our money to HIV clinics... WTF!
