It is not about science it is about strategic military planning. I'm not strongly in favor of a missle defense system, but considering how much money we waste on social welfare crap, 17.5 billion seems like a modest investment. It would be better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. what the left refers to as "trickle-down" economics is nothing more than old fashioned capitalism. Which has worked every time it has been tried. "Any clod can have the facts, but having opinions is an art." Charles McCabe, San Francisco Chronicle

Chris Losinger wrote: anecdotal. doens't prove your statement. It absolutely does prove that you can never get ahead of social welfare spending. The value of any commodity or service is dependent upon how much money there is in the economy to pay for it. Thus, the government has to spend even more on it. This is a vicious cycle that always leads to the same place - nowhere. Try harder :) The one who fires people to have a raise of his shares is IMO acting like an asshole, that was my point Pure capitalism is a synonym for jungle, where only the best adapted survive. I would agree with this principle if we were not talking about human beings.
