I'll be watching the news eagerly listening out for it. :) If anyone is going (to any of them worldwide), make sure you wear a CodeProject t-shirt and promote it as proof that people from different cultures can get along just fine without needing polyticks firetrucking it up. Maybe if world "leaders" stopped looking for the worst in everyone else and started looking for shared hobbies and favourite books, etc, we could all just get along... CodeProject.com brings world peace -- kind of catchy. :~

I've often wondered how we can possibly have a war in the Information Age. How could I go to war against India when I know Indians ? I guess that's one more reason Iraq is not online. Christian No offense, but I don't really want to encourage the creation of another VB developer. - Larry Antram 22 Oct 2002

Again, you can screw up a C/C++ program just as easily as a VB program. OK, maybe not as easily, but it's certainly doable. - Jamie Nordmeyer - 15-Nov-2002

Christian Graus wrote: How could I go to war against India when I know Indians ? We the people don't go to war. Governments do. Sometimes they are doing it for our greater good but in this case I'm not so sure. If they want a war, I think there are some more deserving targets to pick. But of course Iraq is the easy option, as we've already beaten them once in the last 13 years. The thinking must be that we'll have less bodybags coming home. Of course a traditional war against countries is useless at the moment, we should be spending the money on our police/intelligence services so that they can track down all those lunatic terrorists. That's probably why Germany and France tried to build links between their citizens after WWII, after 3 Wars against each others in 70 years. Hundreds, if not thousands, of cities made partnership with a town on the other side of the borders. This direct relationship is an excellent idea, by generating contacts and exchanges between the people, from schools to sport and cultural associations. I don't think now a germano-french war could be possible anymore. Hatred is often caused by Ignorance.

Very few westerners can identify with Iraqi's - how many of us know a single person from Iraq? We have differing religions, schools of thought, etc, all of which help to make us suspicious of each other. It is easier for leaders to fuel fears when people are ignorant of each other :suss:

A pack of geeks, pale and skinny, feeling a bit pumped and macho after a morning of strenuous mouse clicking and dragging, arriving en masse at the gym. They carefully reset the machines to the lowest settings, offer to spot for each other on the 5 lb dumbells, and rediscover the art of macrame while attempting to jump rope. -Roger Wright on my colleagues and I going to gym each day at lunch
