That whole "Weight isn't bad, it's just aimed at tablets where it makes sense" would make sense, except that Microsoft also touts Weight as a super ultra great newest desktop OS, that you absolutely must have. On your desktop.

the OP probably thought he was in the lounge instead of the insider forum.

I've been using it on my laptop for some time now, and while there was a bit of a learning curve (as with anything new), I actually quite like it. Not, 'OMG Wow!' on a laptop, but a nice evolution. Paired with the same experience across to a tablet device, and I will totally be sold. I'm curious what you don't like about it from your personal experience in using it?

Too much learning curve. The whole idea of Windows is not to have a learning curve. I might as well switch to Linux if it suddenly starts having talk of "learning curves that you just have to get over". Or just stick to seven, of course. Almost none of the new features are actually nice anyway, except the improved boot performance.

I'm a bit confused by the frame rate comparison. Is this a reference to the "eye candy" animation associated with their GUI widgets? I just disable all that stuff anyway. Menus fading in and out stops being "cool" the first time you watch it over a subpar VNC connection. If they're focusing on GUI performance, Microsoft should minimize the latency associated with mouse clicks and key presses. This is an area where previous versions of Windows have exhibited sub-Apple IIe performance levels. Admittedly, the Apple IIe had a lot less going on functionality-wise, but click / press latency is what Microsoft should focus on if they really think they can improve Windows performance.

Looks like a few useful features (if I understand them correctly):

                          1. USB Install. Would be pretty neat to be able to take all my work with me, including the OS. Hopefully it's done in a sleek manner (e.g., so it handles changing monitors and such seamlessly).
                          2. Language / Spelling. Choice of language and built-in spell checker. Could be useful for writing in French.

                          Thou mewling ill-breeding pignut!
