"Powell presents 'deeply troubling' evidence"[^] is frankly very disapointing. I was expecting a lot more than dubious audio recordings, one sattelite image and reports of trucks near military bases... oh no, whoever heard of trucks near a military base. I understand the need to protect sources, but the point of this speech was to show the world that the US did in fact have good evidence that Saddam had WMDs. His speech will not change the mind of a single doubter and adds no weight to the pro-war people. He might as well have not made the speech. Once the war is waged I hope we see something proper.

i wish they'd just get on with it and have their stupid war. all of these proofs and resolutions and warnings are just annoying. it's been clear for many months now that GWB is going to do this regardless of what anyone thinks or knows or cares. -c

Ok... Personally I think there is going to be a war either way. The sooner they get it over and done with the better. Regards, Brian Dela :-)

I don't understand why our intel community isn't telling the inspectors where to go. If there are secret bunkers, give them the location. Do the inspectors have to get permission from Iraq first?

The whole point of Resolution 1441 (or whatever it was) was that Iraq would be punished if they did not fully cooperate with UN inspectors. Both Powell and Blix have now testified to that fact. If you don't believe Powell, then believe Blix! What more do you want? What more would you need? Here's a good editorial[^] on the whole thing. You might like this one[^] better though.

What more would you need? proof that there is a clear threat to the US. i'm not a big fan of letting the US police the world. i don't think it's our responsibility, our duty or in our long term best interests. Iraq/Al-Q claims are ridiculous. if we actually knew there were Al-Q camps in the northern part of Iraq (where Saddam isn't in control and where the UN/US already controls the sky), we would've bombed them 100x by now. we invaded Afghanistan in a heartbeat, because of AlQ camps. the satellite pictures are a bit strange too. since they were dated 11/02, we've had at least two months to tell the inspectors where to look. why didn't we? nothing would seal the deal like real evidence - inspectors on the ground, standing in front of missiles. the phone call does sound bad, i'll admit. but, in keeping with my first point, i don't think it's the US's job. if it's a UN issue let the UN handle it. yes, i think the US can and should act to support the UN, but only as part of the UN. what GWB is doing now is using the UN as an excuse to do what he's always wanted to do, since before 9/11. if the UN doesn't want to act, then so be it. i'm not a fan of putting the Made In the USA label on another invasion of another country in a part of the world that already sees the US as the cause of all evil. like it or not, the US is not invincible, invulnerable or impregnable - and encouraging the kind of behavior that we are most susceptible to is plain idiocy, in my book. but, you already knew all that.

Why isn't China or Russia or Japan or Australia going absolutely beserk about NK? Why aren't France and Germany calling for a UN resolution? Yeah, But the US doesn't need two simulateous battles on its hands. After Iraq it must definitly go after NK. This should have been solved 50 yrs ago. When this KIM chap gets his Nukes operational, he is going to be blackmailing the rest of the world for sure. I wouldn't be surprised if they start planting portable devices in Western Cities and then make demands for money and resources etc. Regardz Colin J Davies
