Windows XP & Framework 4.5

There are rumors going around that XP will not run Framework 4.5. In the beta you could not run on Windows XP, and that apparently was anounced. There apparently has been pressure put on Microsoft to support 4.5. I know there were some earlier discussions about this issue, and did not see a followup.

That link is for Windows Installer 4.5, not .NET Framework. Microsoft have already confirmed[^] that .NET 4.5 will not run on XP, and have so far failed to comment on the suggestion[^] of providing a 4.0 service pack for XP.

Yes, Microsoft seems to be downplaying supporting XP. I discovered I had the wrong link. Have not found any link for framework 4.5 for XP.

I know that I think that it is pretty crappy that XP is not supported. But you are right, seems to be the MS is shooting itself in the foot these days. Windows 8 apparently sucks as a desktop OS. Of coures MS almost always seems to get OS's wrong the first time. T

Microsoft no longer supports XP. They are trying to get people away from it, and newer features would be hampered by working in the limitations. A lot of people have 64 bit machines now, so it doesn't make sense to stick with XP.

Microsoft no longer supports XP. They are trying to get people away from it, and newer features would be hampered by working in the limitations. A lot of people have 64 bit machines now, so it doesn't make sense to stick with XP.

Of course, it just reduces the number of applications that will use 4.5. In my organization there are still xp machines, and there is lots of money in the organization. That does not include the number of XP personal PCs that are in use and will be in use for many years. There will be a lot of people that will resist 4.5 because of this stupidity. There is not a good reason to move up to Win7. Of course they want people to buy win8, which is not a good enough OS of desktop for people to buy (people complain about adapting to Win. Why upgrade when OS works fine. Which means that framework 4.5 will not be readily adopted by many organizations. Microsoft is just pissing people off. Not good for Microsoft. I am definately pissed at this overisght.

It isn't an oversight. It is a deliberate move. Windows XP is over 10 years old. I personally feel Microsoft has done a great job of supporting Windows XP as it is now 3 OSes behind current version. Mainstream support ended in 2009 yet they have still released major updates for it. Windows XP is now in extended support which just covers hotfixes basically. With regard to orgs not adopting framework 4.5 due to it not supporting Windows XP, I've actually seen that as a pretty good pressure point on management to finally upgrade those machines to more current OSes.
