Our old dog, a 10.5 year old Golden Retriever, was getting too old, and had problems with it's legs... So, today the vet came and put him to death. :((:((:(( This is really hard, both me and my wife just loved that dog. Now the house is just empty. :( This was the hardest decision we have made for a looong time... - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!"

That sucks man, I know how hard it is to have to put down a pet. One of my roommates just recently had a trajedy with a dog too. It is a Mastif and their family has had the dog for a long time. But just recently it started having epileptic seizures. Right now they are just hoping that they can put him on medication and he'll be all right. Our Golden Retriever, Tara, had to be put down about five years back, and it was horrible beyond words. My mum told me she would be going to the vet to be put down about thirty seconds before I left for school - I'll never forgive her for that, I had to say good bye to someone I had known since the day I was born in just a few seconds. :(( (at least she told me this time, the first cat I had was put down while I was playing at the park) I know you will have had many good moments together - Golden Retriever's are such affectionate and intelligent animals, I've never seen another dog that would be so content just to sit by your feet and watch you for so long. When they look into your eyes they can tell what you are thinking. In the short goodbye I had with Tara it pulled my heart to see how she herself was saying goodbye to me. I have a tear in my eye as I'm writing this. Anders Molin wrote: Now the house is just empty I wont lie - you'll never get over that, not unless you have another dog. There is a hole in our lives that they fill perfectly, one that humans and no other animal can fill. You get to know them so well that they become members of your family. You can live with out them though. You were obviously very close to your dog too, so remember to mourn him properly - don't just pretend that as he was a dog you don't need to grieve for him. He was a member of your close family and you must come to terms with his death or it could have damaging effects to your mental health. You, your wife, and your dog have my best wishes.

I know exactly how you feel. We have three golden retrievers as well as an australian shepard mix, and they're pretty much our kids. Here's a pic of one of our goldens - Molly. She was sitting in the back yard enjoying the late spring sun: Molly[^] If/when you think you're up for it, look into adopting a golden that's been abandoned. There should be a Golden retriever Rescue organization somewhere within a reasonable distance of your location. That's what we're going to do instead of getting another puppy. ------- signature starts "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001 Please review the Legal Disclaimer in my bio. ------- signature ends
