    Microsoft Kills Expression Suite[^]

Microsoft has announced that the Expression suite of design tools is no more. It has been removed from sale immediately and it has been placed on a maintenance only status until it reaches its end of life. However it's not all bad news...

It's good that this little detour has finally come to an end. I had little love for Expression Blend, or the philosophy that Microsoft attempted to build around it.

Expression Blend will be integrated into Visual Studio.

Yes, I read that. We shall see what that means. I think it's significant that Microsoft has gone from having a separate WPF designer to putting the designer back into the IDE. It undermines the philosophy Microsoft tried to sell us when Blend was released, in which there was this neat division-of-labor between design and programming (enabled by the supposed greatness of WPF). This is not in Microsoft's press release, but it is the conclusion that I inevitably draw from it.
