More people need to learn the history of the witch hunts in Salem it seems  That is so pathetic - especially if all the boys concerned agree it is innocent. Of course, there are people out there who believe the Telly-Tubbies are satanic (don't get me wrong - I feel they are an unnecessary evil... but to start implying they are actually evil, that Noddy and BigEars are gay, or whatever is just ridiculous  ). Hopefully all the people who know him will stick by him so that this ridiculous slurr on his personality won't stick. But it must really hurt him that in thanks for giving their kids a good time in the outdoors the parents come back with this. :(( It's almost enough to put you off working with children when you hear stuff like that.

Megan Forbes wrote: but to start implying they are actually evil, that Noddy and BigEars are gay, or whatever is just ridiculous What is worse is when people make out that if they are gay, then it is a deadly sin or something. They gasp as if affronted that one could think of anyone as gay. Nothing wrong with it, so if a cartoon character is gay (or the creator was and some of his tendencies were imposed on the character) then what is the actual problem? Megan Forbes wrote: But it must really hurt him that in thanks for giving their kids a good time in the outdoors the parents come back with this. It's almost enough to put you off working with children when you hear stuff like that. My aunt went and taught in London for awhile and came back aghast at the children but more importantly aghast at the parents. Discipline there is so un-enforceable because if you so much as raise your voice at a kid you can get in trouble. Never mind detention or jacks. My aunt is a tough bird but said the parents must be demons to survive those kids. The co-worker who had a baby recently actually asked some legal advice on wether he can take photos of his newborn baby taking a bath, getting dressed etc. The advice was not to. Sad state of affairs. Megan Forbes wrote: Hopefully all the people who know him will stick by him so that this ridiculous slurr on his personality won't stick The church, scout group and school are being very supportive. All the parents, barring the one idiot, are fully behind him and ready to vouch for him. So he is ok. Still not nice being accused though.

See my comment in one of the threads below regarding the burden of proof and the guilty until prooven innocent -- sorry, innocent until prooven guilty -- idea. If SA is anything like GB your uncle is unlikely to ever work with children again, and will be outed from the community he is a member of by the mob culture. That sucks, totally, bad things will always happen to good people, that's the price people pay for their false security. He has my condolensences and best wishes. Ted's comment about parents being banned from videotaping their children's nativity plays sums up the shit we are being forced to put up with in the name of child safety. If I saw a little girl wandering round in a massive supermarket crying and very obviously lost, I would walk straight past despite all the tags pulling inside me to stop and comfort her, because this early on in my life I cannot survive having that sort of accusation on my record, which would ban me form ever working with children in the future. And the accusations would follow, passersby would phone the police and threaten me with physical violence -- I have seen that in my "home city" of Exeter, and by-and-large they are a pretty nice bunch of people. If you stop to pick up a childs toy that is thrown from their pram the mother will look at you with contempt if you try and return it to the child directly. And you can forget about commenting "that is a cute baby" if you value your career unless you are a family friend, or you will have police teams and a search warrant on your door waiting for you when you return home. Stan's comment is also very true but in this case it is the people not the state that are doing this. Sadly it seems the only people who would stop and help that lost little girl are the very people we are supposed to be protecting them against. Utter idiocy! That is what you get when you let mothers vote! (I'm sorry for the harsh statement, but I hope you can see what I mean in this instance.)

I am pretty angry right now, feel like grabbing the people in question and throttling them till common sense comes down, enters their body and saves their damned souls. My uncle is a Scout master and a Canon (a rank in the Church, not a WMD.) He has been both for many, many years. He has a wife and three daughters. They live in school grounds as he is also the dorm master for the school (a boys only school.) He smokes, he swears, he drinks, he is quite grouchy. But he is a good man all in all. He understands the Bible, gives incredible religious preachings and can move people to tears at weddings that he oversees. He teaches cricket at the school and all the boys respect him immensely. As a Scout master he has been on many camps with both Cubs (young Scouts basically) and Scouts. He has been invited by the Scout organisation many times to America, Europe, Australia etc. for the annual Jamborees. Something terrible happened a few days ago though. The police burst into his home, tore the place apart and took literally thousands of photos and video tapes from his study. They then arrested him and marched him out in handcuffs. The photos and videos are from the many hikes and camps he has been on with his Scouts and Cubs. Now I was both a Cub and Scout and I can assure you that boys will be boys when they are out in the mountains with lakes and streams and forests all around. i.e. They go skinny dipping, they brace themselves as they dive into the freezing cold water, all perfectly naked. When I was a scout we brought our cameras along and our video recorders and we took photos and movies of everything, including all of us diving naked into icy pools. So yes, my uncle has been accused of basically child porn and I am furious. The main reason I am furious is because a teacher at another school in this city was recently convicted of child molestation. The guy did it, he was sick, he has been locked up, case closed. But it isn't, now ever Tom, Dick and Paranoid Parent is on a witch hunt in the city looking for phaedophiles. One of the parents of a Scout remembered spending an enjoyable evening with my uncle and his family in which photos and videos of Scout hikes were brought out, including their son diving into a pool naked. Now the parent has accused my uncle of this henious crime. Note, the child has not accused Mike of anything, said it was harmless and totally normal. And I just want to throttle idiots like that. People who get riled up about something and then start accusing left right

Paul, I'm sorry to hear about that. I hope everything gets OK sooner than the soonest, and things go on the usual way. As you say, your uncle has the support of almost everybody, so things should be OK I'm sure. It's always the nice people who are on the receiving end of things, mostly because they do things with a clean conscience and don't think about the million other interpretations of what they are doing.
                Regards,

What's the old joke about Baden Powell's book 'Scouting for Boys'? :-D Seriously though, whilst it may be upsetting when it is a member of family who is accused - if this police behaviour saves one child then surely it is worth the time to check everybody. Once they have prosecuted him and found him guilty, then laud it up and let the world know. Because if he is not-found guilty then his life is still ruined. All the police needed to do was go to his house, tap on the door ask for the photos and videos. He would have handed them over no problem. They literally burst in and took him out of his house in handcuffs in front of the whole school. My co-worker has a photo of his baby boy in the bath. Does that mean the cops can bust in right now and lead him out in handcuffs? Only to find him innocent and say "ok sorry meneer, carry on with a life which is now forever labelled as that of a phaedophile." Pathetic.
