Leave the spam alone, call attention to it. Sure. But don't erase it.

Very well. Is the point of that so that others can see it for themselves and treat it as such instead of just taking my word for it?

What are you talking about? Spam should be removed, but it's more important to cancel spammer's account.

richcb did the right thing. Anybody can look at the original post by using the versioning link. SPAM should always be removed and the corresponding account shall be nuked. Best practice is to also place a link to the question and the perpetrator in this here forum. Best,

Everybody can still have a look at the previous version, so it's OK to remove the SPAM content IMHO. Cheers!

Aha, now what Griff said in that post does make sense. I guess instead of rambling on RedDK should have just linked to that. Cheers!

Partly, but there is another reason. From time to time, Chris tries out automated antispam systems - and if you edit the message and remove the spam content itself, then the system has nothing spammish to learn from. This causes the systems to either be ineffective, or to learn entirely the wrong things! I used to edit the message, but Chris did ask us all very politely not to for this very reason. Spam reports (or a staff member / Protector) will remove it soon enough!

The only instant messaging I do involves my middle finger. English doesn't borrow from other languages. English follows other languages down dark alleys, knocks them over and goes through their pockets for loose grammar.

Agree. That's why I was concerned about reporting the spam posts: it may leave no time for reporting on the spammer account instead. Spam content should not be replaced. I used to edit it a while ago, until I realized that it's counter-productive. In this very thread, I only discussed spam reporting and fighting spam as such. As to the antispam systems, please see my short article: A Plan for Spam[^]. What do you think?
