[Sarcasm] I don't know why France doesn't realize that because tens of thousands of US soldiers died freeing them, they are required to follow the US' government's wishes for a term of 100 years. This is just stupid. If individuals want to punish France, then go for it. But when legislators get involved, watch out! The French have done this to us before (Libya), so just chill out and ignore them.

Those men payed the ultimate price to buy that real estate, what kind of moron would try to take it away from them? It doesn't matter what kind of spat the US and France have that should be considered sacred ground. Uptight Ex-Military Republican married to a Commie Lib - How weird is that?

Well put Brit. I know this is going to rub some people the wrong way but... (This is the soapbox after all :) ) The Americans weren't the only ones who fought in World War 2 you know. France suffered a long time before the Americans finally decided to get involved and that's only because the Japs attacked you at Pearl Harbour. America did not single handedly save the world. There were around 350,000 French civilian and about a quarter of a million military casuaties during the war. As far as I know all of Americas casalties (around 300,000?) were military and most of them were killed in the war with Japan. Try not to pat yourselfs on your backs too much._

But if the US hadn't entered the war, everyone would be speaking some weird mix of German and Japanese. The US may not have single-handedly "won the war", but they were the dominant reason it was won. The problem with France (Germany, and Russia) isn't that they disagree with us on principle, it's that they disagree because of the *money* the make on Iraq. Instead of doing what's right, they're worried about their pocketbooks. It has nothing to do with what happened 509 years ago. ------- signature starts "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001 Please review the Legal Disclaimer in my bio. ------- signature ends

I disagree on the first point. Japan wasn't out for world domination and Germany would still not have taken England and would still have been stopped by the Russians. France might be a bit smaller though. The second point is maybe half right. You guys should have finished Saddam in the Gulf War instead of packing up and going home. Why didn't you push all the way and take out Saddam then?_

Everyone I knows agrees with that sentiment, and I'm sure many/all of the military feels the same way.As to why, you'll have to ask someone with more insight. Being a programmer, I see things in a binary format - the bit is on, or it's off - someone should have turned the sadam husein bit off ten years ago. ------- signature starts "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001 Please review the Legal Disclaimer in my bio. ------- signature ends
