http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/03/26/1048653751202.html[^] For the second time in two days, an American Patriot missile defence battery has apparently locked its sights on a coalition fighter plane, raising fears that the system's targeting software is infected with a deadly glitch.

You should save yourself and your company years of grief by shooting yourself through the head immediately. Believe me, in the long run it'll turn out better for everyone. - Tyto (at arstechnica) Awasu 1.0[^]: A free RSS reader with support for Code Project.

This is a good example for software developers: our bugs do have an impact on our user's lives. No joke meant, of couse.

Exactly. Maybe the people who voted the post down thought I was making a joke or something. Far from it - it's tragic to think that airmen may have been shot down and killed because of buggy software.

I can see it now Developer : Well it didnt do that when I compiled it, try it again and see if you can replicate the problem. On the subject of "life threatening" code, read this article about the people that develop the code for the Space Shuttle http://www.fastcompany.com/online/06/writestuff.html[^]
