Chris, Good on ya mate! You guys did a fantastic job on the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. Definitely the best opening ceremonies I ever saw. Olivia Newton John was fabulous. Loved the lighting of the flame. Everything worked beauifully! John
Thanks mate! Was nothing really - just something we knocked up in someone's back shed one afternoon... :) I just wonder how many understood the outdoor loo, the cardboard box sheep or the lawnmowers. We were falling off our chairs in hysterics but were a little worried it wouldn't make any sense to anyone but us. Oh - and if you thought the pause before the flame road up the tracks to the top of the stadium was a little long you were right. Oops :D cheers, Chris Maunde

Yo Congrats OZ, I also wondered, as to outside of Australasia how many folk the symbolysm of corrugated-Iron / Tin and DreamTime would have been totally lost on. Most of the world audience would have required extensive voice overs to explain what was happening. Also why Cathy Freeman was chosen to light the flame and why the old women did the flame's lap, Is difficult to explain. I praise the directors for keeping to the script / this really kept the performance absolutly original. Regardz Colin PS I have scored tickets to the WL at the convention center next week, Now I still have to arrange transport to Syd,

As an Australian working in the US, it was pretty interesting to see NBC's coverage of the opening ceremonies. They did a good job of explaining the reason for the female olympians and seemed genuinely excited about Cathy Freeman being chosen to light the flame. One thing that struck me as suprising was the number of competitors in the Australian team this year. For a population of some 20 million, we've got as many athletes competing as the US.

Yes the Aussie's have put on quite a Games so far. The venues are amazing. Look at the beauty of the Triathlon circuit or even holding Sailing events right in the harbour instead of having to travel away from the host city as is the custom. Leslie you brought up 2 points near and dear to me as a Canadian. First I have to say the U.S. coverage is quite ridiculous. I'm talking about sports coverage not the opening ceremonies. NBC has paid $4 billion and will not show one minute of live coverage. Everything is taped and edited I'm assuming so they can put a dramatic twist on the event or highlight American athletes no matter where they finish. I have some American friends in Vermont who are very happy they can get Canadian coverage which include over 500 hours of live coverage! NBC has 60 hours of taped coverage. I reckon it's tough to be a sports fan in the U.S. Second, It's amazing what Australia is achieving with their medal wins. Canada has more people and we only have 2 medals with not may prospects left. I love the way sports are so revered in Australia and so well supported by the people. This topic is coming up nightly in the news here in Canada. All the officials are wondering how the Australian system works and how we can reproduce it. Of course it takes money but it's sad to say I don't think the people will go for it because they don't have the same respect for amateur athletics as in Australia.
