Were they spam? If so, the CP team don't want them clearing out by members - they want us to report them as spam so that they can feed into the spam filter. I believe that they are closed automatically once the member account is nuked.

Yes they were spam in what looked like Chinese. I've heard conflicting messages on whether things should be deleted or not and I've seen messages hang around after the member was nuked (although that may just have been the caching) I reported all of the messages individually as spam before deleting them

I think in this case an exception could be made: it was a ongoing barrage of 11 and more messages in a few minutes, so the reduction of the damage could be priortized, IMHO.

That was not Chinese, but Korean (Hangul) language. And they were definitely spam :)

Err no. It was brought up when we were dealing with a barrage from one user - we nuked about 100 messages before we were asked not to do this by Matthew.

Not sure about it, there was no clear translation and no links. I have reported as abuse(s) and abuser.

I did see the announcement when it was published, I didn't understand all the implications though. Not that I put too much attention on it as I'm no protector so I don't have rights to delete posts :)

Cheers, missed that thread entirely - definitely needs to be a sticky post (as mentioned in those comments). Behaviour amended :)

I was aware about the do not delete. I was meaning what you said, that the spam messages get deleted automatically.

According to that post, they do go automatically - that's why I linked to it. That way, you have the official CP view and not just my interpretation.
