Microsoft COM

Is anyone still using COM objects? It's been at least 10 years since I came across any reference to using COM in writing a Windows application. I'm wondering.. is COM just legacy or are people still actively using it?

Well I can think of one place where it's still in use: Shell extensions. BTW in my opinion when you say something is legacy, it's because it's old AND people are still using it. EDIT: I also know for a fact that if you want to create a backup program that interacts with the Volume Shadow Service, that interface is all COM. :)
The difficult we do right away... ...the impossible takes slightly longer.

Yes, I am currently using COM for building office add-ons. It's still used in legacy applications.

Let me reverse that down vote, because I agree with you, it was not that useful and seems to have died out.
