    Computerworld[^]:

Only the iPhone 5c running iOS 9 can be unlocked by the tool the FBI bought to crack the iPhone used by one of the San Bernardino killers. The tool does not work on the iPhone 5s or 6, so it addresses only a "narrow slice" of iPhones, Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey said late Wednesday at Kenyon College. The government is considering whether it should disclose to Apple the flaw that aided the hack: "We just haven't decided yet," he said at the Ohio college's Center for the Study of American Democracy.

Just the final part of the iPlan. Here's a thought: why does one carry around their private information on a small easily lost or stolen device to begin with?

        Do you carry a wallet?

Don't you want to have a safer device ? (whatever brand/OS you have).

          I'd rather be phishing!

Yup - and guess what. I absentmindedly left my Social Security number off of any of its contents. And my bank account information. And my health history (alas, I do have my health plan ID) And it doesn't know where I am, where I've been, or what I've bought with its buy-stuff content. And my keys aren't in my wallet - and the keys don't have my address on them! And . . . (by now, you should get the picture).

I do have a safer device - and LG FlipPhone. And I don't view my life through its little window. Actually, all it does it send and receive phone calls. Because that's all I'll let it do (and, whilst my watchband is broken, I looked at it once, yesterday, for the time). And if I lose the thing?   US$20 and I'm back in business. So, unless I lay back, hold it over my face and carefully drop it in my eyeball, it's pretty safe as it is.

Except about Security Conscious, no - basically wrong on all counts.* The corporate plot's really no secret:   make as much money as you can. That's the point of the business. It just so happens that they realize that personal information is very valuable and figured out how to harvest it; have enough computing power to correlate it; and then we're back to making money, again. I don't avoid technology - but I also don't let it rule my life. Smart-phones? They own their users. Always having the phone in their face; texting at all times (even while driving!). They look at their little device strapped to their hip (feeling important) and keep looking at it hoping someone will validate them as a human being by texting them - or even a tweet. Micro$lut's Windows 10 even owns your computer for you! After you by the O/S, they tell you that they can access your PC whenever they want, download and modify the system, and you can't stop them. And A$$wipes, far and wide, buy into this. So - you phone is pre-set to expose as much of your harvestable information as possible. Trying to disable it, assuming you even are even aware of it, can be quite a challenge as one goes down layer-after-layer (if they've even the wit to follow the path for setups). So - back to the original premise: Apple's only concern for security is how it will impact sales and persist their phenomenal markups. If security and privacy were any concern to them at all, then their phone - and the applications they so strictly control - would all be opt-in for anything related to the user's privacy. But guess what kitty - they don't do it that way. Shows you what your privacy's worth to them.
                  * A bit paranoid? Only a fool grins and walks into the lion's den.

Nah - not a nerve. If you look at me, historically, I will tend to spew on certain subjects. Especially earlier in the day when I'm fully alert. And there's always the hope that in the tomb I'll  'hit a nerve' and have someone rethink their position. [It's rare]. It's the lounge (even though this really isn't the lounge) - enjoy:  what else is it for?
