The idea of Win 10 Cloud as a "successor" to Win RT induced a wave of nausea. On WinAero, Sergey Tkachenko's under-the-hood Win exploratorium: [^].

    Quote:

Besides this restriction, many Store apps cannot be installed or launched in the current version of Windows 10 Cloud. Neither can Windows 8 Metro apps from the Store run. It is also worth mentioning that apps converted from Win32 to the UWP wrapper using Project Centennial app do not work in Windows 10 Cloud. The limitation is very strict and similar to the restrictions implemented in Windows RT.

Yep, sounds like an alpha escaped from the zoo.

«There is a spectrum, from "clearly desirable behaviour," to "possibly dodgy behavior that still makes some sense," to "clearly undesirable behavior." We try to make the latter into warnings or, better, errors. But stuff that is in the middle category you don’t want to restrict unless there is a clear way to work around it.» Eric Lippert, May 14, 2008

Since Windows RT Microsoft has made substantial progress with the UWP platform, developer tools and also improving the app offering on the windows store. But most of the interesting apps are still coming from the Win32 sphere and even some of the more popular UWP apps (TuneIn Radio etc.) perform poorly. App reactivity/performance is a major issue. I guess that Windows 10 Cloud will be a disappointment such it was RT and hurt Microsoft´s brand image once more. They should focus more on premium/performance solutions... as they have shown, this can work greatly.
