        It's a game. Networking is part of playing the game. Trimming the fat is part of playing the game. Promotions based on likability versus merit and skill, is part of playing the game. None of this should come as a surprise to anyone, if it does, you are not playing the game, and if you are, you are a terrible player. With that said, not all Employers/Companies play the game, and if they do, they may only play on Friday nights. So, with an employer like that, you may have an easier time playing the game with greater odds at actually winning from time to time.
