1. Peel raw potatoes and rinse with water 2. Quarters (depending on size) them and put them in a water bath approx. 1/2 hour 3. Rattling
4. Rinse again under shower in the sieve (ok. Ms. thinks this is too much) 
5. Dry them on paper towl. I took one layer better use 3 layers 
6. Because only one layer in step 5 I cheated to dry them form top 
6.a 
7. Heat butter (not too much, here I put too much...) and add a portion of potatoes (here I added also some salt, but that is up to you) 
8. Fry them until crispy 
9. Taste it 
Finally in case you like it with some calories more, add up to three tablespoon of milk. Usually I don't do it because without they are more light. Enjoy :)It does not solve my Problem, but it answers my question

I really like butter. Bred, butter and salami, whatelse. But for hash browns (like I remeber them from my trip in US before about 30 years and at this time they where fantastic) it was too much this time :-D

It's funny how we crave what we can rarely have. Hash browns are OK, but I'd rather have Belgian fries. And even better, and far less naughty, are the roasted potatoes that my wife makes. Cut to the size of slightly oversized fries and roasted on a cast iron pizza pan. OMG.
