    Bleeping Computer[^]:

For quite some time, users have been reporting an inconsistent bug in Windows 10 that prevents them from changing the default program associated with a file type.

    Quality is Job None

Time for another SDL pause in Redmond?

The old songs are the best songs. When are you going to post the story about the Linux terminal-only VM? :)

Either this bug, or a similar one, goes back to Windows 7 where you sometimes couldn't change the "default" program.

One thing is when you can't change it, another thing is when it afterwards changes it back again on its own

M.D.V. ;) If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about? Help me to understand what I'm saying, and I'll explain it better to you Rating helpful answers is nice, but saying thanks can be even nicer.

I just ran into this with my new Windows 10 machine. After a bit of looking online I either found the solution or it came to me while searching. Open the application as administrator you want to associate a file type with and associate the file types using the Windows 10 'Choose default apps by file type', or other appropriate Settings page. Problem solved.
