What the Cat Brought In

ServImg[^] Imagine my surprise when I walked into the utility room and saw this. Yikes! I am not a herpetologist but that looks like a baby Diamondback Rattlesnake to me. It was about a foot long and its head was about an inch across. I threw it outside. That cat has brought in live Woodpeckers, Blue Jays, mice, and lizards but this was a first and hopefully the last snake it brings in.
"They have a consciousness, they have a life, they have a soul! Damn you! Let the rabbits wear glasses! Save our brothers! Can I get an amen?"

Normally I do. I make an exception where rattlesnakes are concerned around the house. I live in Northern California and I am bordered by BLM land on three sides. We have LOTS of wildlife here. I haven't posted the video of the bear yet. The cat chased it too.

Is yours a female cat rearing its young ones? We had a female cat protecting is young ones, when a dog came. The cat raised an alarm and tried to chase it away, after which I went and chased away the dog.

My cat used to regularly bring in copperhead snakes. Unfortunately my buddy wandered off somewhere and never came back home. I guess he got a better offer somewhere that had more snakes to catch. CQ de W5ALT

My female cat was fearless. Once a german shepherd dog wandered into our front yard. This tiny little cat jumped at him and sunk her claws in his nose. He ran off screeching and never entered our space again. He'd had enough and learned his lesson. On the other hand, our little miniature schnauzer regularly fought cats and big dogs. Depends on its age. If it is younger than four years, you have some suprises waiting.

My longest grilling tongs. I was also wearing my grilling gloves which come up to my elbow. Just the other day that same cat found a rattlesnake in our garage. That was another adventure. We avoid leaving our garage door open now.
