First boss lasted one whole week. Second and Third bosses (dual reporting) were awesome for the next 9 months. First time a dual reporting relationship that actually worked and worked very well. Two great individuals who communicated both with each other and with me. 4th boss is a jerk. Oh well. So 4th boss wanted another layer of management between himself and his minions. Brings on an new manager between us. Without any interview process without any warning. New mid-level boss started today. Like/Love the job and the co-workers and greatly believe in the product. BUTTTTTTTTT........ Feeling a little jerked around right now. Advice thoughts?

What happened to bosses 1 through 3? If you're at a larger company, you might look for an internal transfer if boss 2 or 3 is still around and boss 5 doesn't work out. It sounds like boss 4 is going to become boss 5's problem, not yours. And that boss 4 or his boss is incompetent, because boss 4 was put in a position where he was supposed to manage your group but couldn't.

don't really want to grow(other than my own brain). I am at a smaller organization so growth would take me out of IT and that is not something I would even consider were it even possible. don't get me wrong I like new challenges. But I am made for Programming and solving tech issues. I am not made for other jobs. 5th boss is actually turning out to be ok. But worried that his bosses don't see him in that light. Trying to help with that(keep your bosses boss off your bosses back). The Company is facing some definite issues with the economy and other things related to that. So just trying to keep my head down.
