For me not really spam as there are free plans, but site driving / self promotion... hell yeah!

Using an article to promote a "freemium" product is definitely spam. If you're charging for it, you can afford to pay Chris to advertise it! :)

Yes, yes it's OK. They are a paid sponsor. I forgot to put the sponsor icon on the author again. I'd like to say, "this was the lesson I needed, I'll never forget again," but just in case that isn't true, you can always check this text at the top of the article: "This article is a sponsored article.
