What version of Windows are you running? I had the same problem on Win98, but never with Win95 or ME/XP.

At the moment XP. From what I see I'm not sure how well WinXP and VS6 like each other - but I might be wrong. Paul ;)

:mad::mad: Recently my VC++6 has developed a new trick: hanging during linking or compiling. What happens is when I hit Build the debug window says "Linking..." or "Compiling...", but does nothing after that. It's not as if msdev.exe hangs, because I can still move my mouse, click Stop Build (not that this does anything), and if I click Close, it says there are build processes still active!! [edit] It doesn't do that consistently either - it occasionally does manage [/edit] Has anyone else had this, and if so how can I fix it? Thanks in advance :-D Paul ;)

I had a similar problem at one point, the compilation would hang on specific files. It wouldn't really "hang", though, it would just take a ridiculously long time to compile (like, 30 minutes for one file.) It turns out the optimizer didn't like some of our code. I couldn't really blame it on the optimizer, though, since this particular source file was thousands of lines long and was really pretty crappily coded. The quick fix was to turn off optimization, the long-term fix was to fix the code. "When a man sits with a pretty girl for an hour, it seems like a minute. But let him sit on a hot stove for a minute and it's longer than any hour. That's relativity." - Albert Einstein
