Message filtering?

I don't wish to rely on other people's (fairly arbitrary) ratings of posts, so have my noise level set to high. However, it would be nice to be able to apply filters on certain topics and individual posters. Is it possible already, and I haven't spotted it? It's easy enough to do with my news reader on Usenet groups. Or maybe someone should set up and alt.codeproject. group: it's a far better format for reading discussions of this type, in terms of speed/filtering/downloads etc. Debbie

I have suggested to Chris before that we should be able to filter out certain posters - topics would be harder to do. I guess it might be on the TODO: List but then again the added database queries might make it impractical. Michael 'War is at best barbarism...Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, more vengeance, more desolation. War is hell.' - General William Sherman, 1879

no, it's not possible. you have to do it the hard way - read the title and author, then act appropriately. -c CheeseWeasle

Author is getting to be an easy one :suss:, but topics aren't always that descriptive. Maybe I need to have a closer look at my message settings: is there a way of only seeing recent postings in a non-threaded format? Debbie
Debs wrote: is there a way of only seeing recent postings Yes. On the upper right there's a box labelled 'Messages Since:' where you can filter by time period. I can't testify about whether it works, though, as I've always had it set to All.:)

I personally like the Preview mode, where I can see the subject, author, and the first line of the message. I can filter through all of the "me too" and "that was funny" responses without having to open each one up individually. "Preview" has been a big time saver for me.
