    I've been fucked up by a nice feature of Outlook 2k. Never ever use the "Rich Text format". You may believe it's RTF? No, it's not. It's in fact a "Microsoft Outlook Rich Text Format" (see http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q241/5/38.ASP), called also TNEF. The consequence? Somebody using another mailer than this bloody fucking Outlook (yep, I'm upset) won't see any of your initial attached files but something like "winmail.dat". Something he/she can do nothing with it. Cute, isn't it? :mad::mad::mad: I'm definitively switching to Eudora tonight.

        So, you would recommend thunderbird as a personal email client? I assume it is a part of the Mozilla project - I don't know anything more about it. But if it has the Rules stuff that Outlook has, then it may very well be installed on my home machine this evening... -- Russell Morris "So, broccoli, mother says you're good for me... but I'm afraid I'm no good for you!" - Stewy

              Yes, it's highly suitable for a non-office environment (no pun intended). It's quite stable - no crashes or lost email so far. The only glitch I've encountered so far is that if you pop mail from two or more accounts, the "get email" button will only fetch from the first account. It can get around it by right right clicking the accounts inbox and select "Get Messages for Account" in the context menu. Other than that, Thundbird has been nothing but delight for me. I was quite hesitant at first though, because I've tried the fullblown Mozilla client - browser/email/chat/bloat, and the email klient felt very sluggish. Thunderbird is nothing like that. -- N = { n_i_ | n0 = 0, n_i_ + 1 = n_i_ + 1, i ³ 0 }

                Sigh. Tell me about it! The company I work for uses a mail client that I wrote and one of the biggest pains in the arse is when people ask me what the f*ck a winmail.dat attachment is (and they often whine about my mailer not being able to decode it - if I had a pound for every time I've said "because it's a proprietary MS format"). I have to get them to mail the above URL to the sender and politely ask them to disable this dubious "feature". IIRC some older versions of Outlook would send messages in this format automatically if you were unlucky enough to be flagged as another Outlook user in their address book. What a load of shit. The only acceptable format for email messages is text - with clickable links. Even HTML messages get on my nerves big time ... "but with a HTML message I can make the text BOLD or have it display in a purdy colour". Yeh, and as you need to include a plain text alternative, you double the size of every message. Fantastic. When will people learn that Outlook is work of Satan himself? I agree the groupware features (diary, calendar, etc.) are useful but the mail client sucks donkey nads. And thanks to its "popularity" (i.e. MS giving away Outlook Express - thanks for ruining any chances of use trying to sell our mail client you fucks) the Internet is victim to bandwidth sucking viruses like Sobig.f. It makes my fucking blood boil. Use of Outlook is banned in our company and rightly so.

                    Yes, Thunderbird rocks! :) I am riotously happy with Thunderbird as my e-mail client. The Get Messages issue above is the only one that bothers me too. It just keeps getting better and better as they rev it, but the current milestone build is very stable. I have not had a single problem with it so far. The Junk Mail filter is a godsend. :)
