greghop wrote: Hasn't this seccessionist thing already been tried ? Yeah - Vermont and New Hampshire both have a bit of a reputation for stuff like this. I think a group in Vermont actually tried to secede awhile ago... How about they move somewhere down in South America - one of the more unstable places down there at least - and try this 'minimalist' junk. I'm all for less government nannying and all, but the right-wing hippies really get on my nerves. It'd be pretty easy to setup a minimalist utopia when you're surrounded by an incredibly powerful, mostly friendly nation. greghop wrote: Project chiefs will now try to persuade 20,000 people to move to New Hampshire and sway the electorate towards blocking federal "nanny" laws and social restrictions. And I will now attempt to pull 20,000 winged monkeys out of my butt... Loony Libertarians surely? Either that or "Loony Left" means something different in the US! Here, extreme left-wingers would be following a Socialist agenda, whereas this bunch want to combine right-wing economics with a very liberal social outlook. I don't have a problem with that! Free market? So it should be. Legalise drugs? Again, I think this is bold - the war on drugs isn't working and in the UK 70% of crime is drug-related. Having a heroin addict as a brother gives me a different view on this than most. If he could fund his smack habit without resorting to crime then he wouldn't have caused untold pain and upset (as well as spending the best part of the last 10 years in prison - which only made his addiction worse!). I am of the opinion that once you are over 21, if you want to abuse your body by taking drugs, then that's your busines! A contentious issue though. Prostitution is the oldest trade in the world - why shouldn't it be lagal (and regulated)? The UK has the highest rate of sex-crime in Europe - and the most Victorian sex laws - I'm sure they two are related! Regulation of brothels works OK in other countries so this idea should be applauded IMHO. However, announcing they want a break-away regimne really is nuts. And I'm no fan of gun ownership either! But we've had THAT discussion many times before...

I like comparative politics & sometimes wish it was used more effectively in USA... I'd definitely like to see looser drug laws, current scorched earth USA policy is well beyond understanding and deep into the delusional phase. The drug thing apparently is some kind of moral issue, along with the real life explicit sex trade. But glamorizing & trivialing sex and violence in TV/movies seems OK. I'm not sure how this current state of social affairs evolved & doubt it will be changing much anytime soon oh well As for the break away regime WTF clearly I meant the SOUTH SHALL RISE AGAIN !!!! www.cwc.lsu.edu[^]

I'm currently pondering the trinity only 3 kinds: fascists anarchists communists republicans & democrats are tamer versions of fascists & communists. anarchists are tools used by both fascists & communists to gain power, otherwise they are just rebellious teenagers no matter what their age. IMHO a very flexible approach, just like editing previous posts :-D:-D:-D

How about splitting the systems into two groups, Individualists and Collectivists. Individualists could include, Anachists, Nihilists, Both Liberalism and libertarianism, Capitalism, objectivism, and republicists. Any of the others are Collectivists. Regardz Colin J Davies

The ind's vs. col's seems better naming conventions But I'd definitely exclude the ana's & nihi's from the ind group because they don't really support anything except the destruction of everything. I guess that's a political orientation but to me it sounds more like an emotional problem Is Objectivism the formal name for the cult like group surrounding Ann Rand ? From the little I've read, she was never really "elevated" to real philosophy altho she does have some ardent followers. But I went to a few local meetings (in Atlanta awhile back) read some of their stuff which was "distilled" from her books & IMHO it's mostly a non-sensical collection of snippets from other more famous people....

Anarchism has got a bad press. To me it's like communism, in that in the long term it can't work as the absolute ideals of it are impossible to exist, factors such as human nature take over. Interesting Marx only ever saw Communism as a transitional state for a country, not as the solution. Later communists were the ones who believed in the global communist ideal. IMHO Anarchism can basically be divided into two groups. Left Anarchism, and Anarch-Capitalism. Modern Libertairianism shares a lot of what Left-Anarchasim has. Regardz Colin J Davies
