Beware Michael Martin's music taste
-
OK - so I bitched and moaned about buying CD's that have 1 or 2 good tracks playing on the radio, only to find that once I buy it, those are the only two tracks worth listening to. To me that's totally misleading advertising. So Michael mentions OPM, and says apart from 1 or 2 tracks it's pure gold. So I buy. Hmm. 2 good tracks. The rest crud. cheers, Chris Maunder (CodeProject)
Asides from Heaven is a Halfpipe what is the other good song? Chris I would that your taste in music is the same as your taste in cities (to live in). OPM's Menace to Sobriety is pure Gold. I have been playing this CD to death over the last couple of weeks. I remeber that thread now that you mention it. It was a very educational and illuminating read. I wish Hassan joined in more often. Have you heard the album? I'm just wondering what the thought's of a young wipper snapper (your 22 aren't you?) are? I'm 32 and Chris is 31 (but lives in Canberra X| ) so what would we know. I'm waiting for John and Stan to join in. You know the oldies who like both kinds of music, Country and Western. Di-di-ding, ding, ding, ding ,ding, ding, ding ... "Squeal like a pig". It's just clicked. Chris can't stand the music cause it doesn't remind him of the Porno organ music he is used too. :-D Yay, got another Chris/Porno shot in. 30, going on 21. Not 31! Heaven is a halfpipe is great, and Stash up (radio version) is excellent. This is weird, but I *much* prefer the radio edit of Stash up than the CD version (I don't give a *what*? Not a single *what*? Motha*yeah*!) Just seems more, well, clever than the "I don't give a small flying bird from Thailand, not a single..." cheers, Chris Maunder (CodeProject)

Actually, I've never heard of them. What kind of band are they? Are they similar to Limp Bizkit? I'll have to give them a listen and I'll let you know what I think. I'm waiting for John and Stan to join in. You know the oldies who like both kinds of music, Country and Western Ok, I'll admit it - having grown up on a farm, I have listened to more than my share of C&W. ;P I'll pretty much listen to anything that sounds good to me. > I'm waiting for John and Stan to join in. You know the oldies who like both kinds of > music, Country and Western. That just shows that if you guys would start listening to C&W, you'd be in pretty good company. :) Actually, I listen to a little rock (ZZ-Top, Georgia Satellites, George Thoroughgood [sp?], Stray Cats), but C&W is my favorite. I was raised around it, and have personally met Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Porter Wagoner, Chet Atkins, Buck Owens, Roy Clark, Roger Miller, Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs (the last four of whom lived in my neighborhood). Patsy Cline is my 3rd cousin (I went to her funeral when she died). My dad played C&W when I was very young (up till I was about 9 years old). He and my mom divorced when I was 7, and he wanted custody of us five kids, but the only way the court would grant custody was if he gave up his music - so he did. According to everyone I've heard from, he was on the brink of breaking into the big time when this happened. Right now, he's playing bluegrass (a more accurate musical genre for the cited movie reference to Deliverance), and he still has the Gibson J-45 guitar he bought back in 1957, along with a Martin D-18, a Martin D-28 (a gift from Lester Flatt I think), as well as another Gibson. So you see, there's a lot of history there. For the record, I don't like about 98% of the newer people playing C&W because they're trying to hard to make their stuff cross-over to the rock charts. IMHO, it's a complete waste of talent and time. I primarily listen to old Garth Brooks (Ropin' The Wind was his last decent CD), George Straight, Dwight Yoakum, Alan Jackson, Waylon Jennings, and Riders In The Sky.

Hey, how do you know I like C & W? I'll have you know that my preferred music is "classic" rock and roll. Led Zepplin,Cream,Stones, etc. I even enjoy a lot of the newer stuff even though I no longer know who the hell the bands are. There are some country artists I will listen to such as Johney Cash, Hank Williams (jr and sr ), Ricky Skaggs. But I cannot stand most modern "country and western". It sucks. I wish Garth Brooks would choke to death on his own vomit (even though he is a fellow Sooner). George Straight is not bad ( he is also a distant cousin of mine). ;) "I never met anyone I didn't like" Will Rogers.

If you like Faithless (the band, Insomnia, God is a DJ etc.) type music then get their latest CD (the one with We Come One). All but two tracks are great. How many coders here like dance/techno/rave music? I love it. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass Cape Town, South Africa "We would accomplish many more things if we did not think of them as impossible." - Chretien Malesherbes

Hey, how do you know I like C & W? Didn't. Went the typical stereotype, your from down South, so you must love C&W. Personally I like a great variety of music myself. From John Williamson through to the Sex Pistols. Also hate a lot of music, depends on the songs not the band.
