What would be the appropriate length of a software engineer resume for a person with less than 5 years experience. I've heard from one source that 1 would be appropriate. Another source said that you can write more than one page because I would be better off putting all my skills and experience into two pages rather than condensing my skills and duties from my previous jobs. Anyone have an opinion?

I would say 2 pages would be a minimum, but try not to make it strech to over 3.

I've been working in IT for years, back when it was DP, in fact, and I skip detail in the earlier stuff (who needs to know exactly what I did 20 years ago?) so that mine fits in 3 pages, but a potential employer can work out if I'm the right kind of guy from the first page. On the other hand, it might explain why I can't seem to get any interviews right now! Steve S Spen_c_er for hire: All reasonable offers considered.

1 page is best, 2 is acceptable. 3 is probably too much. Remember, even if you win the rat race, you're still a rat.

2 Pages I've known companies to bin anything over 2 pages when many applicants apply.

I have 7 years of programming experience and I make sure my resume is only 1 page. People don't want to slog through a long list of information. They want a crisp clean efficient way of getting the information. If the resume is longer than 1 page, the details will get lost and you'll have fewer hits on your resume. *shrug* that's my two cents anyhow :D Good luck J MCSD C#.Net
