I can't even click google links anymore without being redirected to buysearch.cc or home-search.cc or searchpace.cc I am sick of it. I can't find where those companies are because none of their contactinfo works so I am paying $500 for this "friend" to locate their business, identify the owner and let me know where I when I can expect to find him on a given day. Hopefully by then I will have figured out a way to disable the damn thing. Otherwise I am going to be waiting for him when he strides out of his shithole job. I figure 10 days in jail would be worth it to see the look on his face while one of the people he has screwed over with his crappy software is beating the shit out of him. I feel nothing better for whatever jackass wrote that software, took some piddly money and then just said "Oh, I was just writing what my client wanted DUDE" They all deserve to die. I run prcview and nothing is showing up that I can't identify. Why in the HELL would Microsoft build a product that lets users destroy its core functionality so easily? Were they really stupid enough to think that spammers wouldn't plug into the browser and ruin it? GRRRRRRRRRRR!

I had some trouble like this, and ran AdAware (www.lavasoft.com[^] i think) and all was good. make sure you have it check for most recent reference file updates before scanning. BW The Biggest Loser

I've seen this problem before: You need spybot search and destory, and adAware. Others have linked to it... I've seen computers more than double in effective speed after using these two programs to clean them up. Now the hard part:

The spyware you have on your computer knows about those two programs and will do everything in there power to keep you from running it. That means you will have to download the software on someone else's computer, and put it on CD-ROM to get it on yours (so far that works...)

Also make sure you are getting the right programs. Some sneaky spyware companies have written programs that look similar to the above two, but they uninstall their compitition and install their own spyware for no net gain. ad-Aware is spelled just like that, and not ada-ware to give just one example.

P.S. Mozilla doesn't get this stuff nearly as often, I highly recomend it.

I'm thinking of switching back to Opera. It was very fast and didn't constantly blow up and try to debug itself every hour. Good advice from all - thanks!!

Just to chime in, do a search for HijackThis! - it catches whatever AdAware and Spybot miss. Hit 'em a good one for me :)

There's a patch that fixes a number of vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer, whilst fixing png transparency, CSS, and standards compliance. It's called Mozilla Firefox ;P

If you happen to find xplugin.dll in your system32 directory, that is the one hijacking your google results. Reboot in safe mode, rename the file to something else, and reboot again. Then you can safely delete the file.
