Cultural Exchange

Looks like Chinese government is going to allow the first foreign documentary to be shown in China. http://english1.peopledaily.com.cn/200407/01/eng20040701_148176.html[^] Isn't cultural exchange great? I'm sure the Chinese government has the purest of intentions in showing this to their citizens. ( My guess is that the film will be perceived as discrediting American democracy in general. ) ----------------------------------------------------- Bush To Iraqi Militants: 'Please Stop Bringing It On' - The Onion "Moore's prominent presence in the news brings to light some serious questions, such as 'Can't he at least try to look presentable?'" - The Onion

"The film, which is currently playing in cinemas around North America, was the top ticket-seller last weekend." Looks like they like to watch the same kind of propaganda and lies as the Americans, you got a problem with that? ;P Brit wrote: My guess is that the film will be perceived as discrediting American democracy in general. As far as descrediting democracy is concerned, the film is nothing compared to the actions of US government.

Small Dragon wrote: Looks like they like to watch the same kind of propaganda and lies as the Americans, you got a problem with that? Yup. His stuff is a lot of half-truths and implied wrongdoing (which is why I've always been a critic of his), but when Americans see it, they are motivated to elect someone else. When foreigners see it, they are motivated to hate the US in general. Small Dragon wrote: As far as descrediting democracy is concerned, the film is nothing compared to the actions of US government. And a nice big layer of half-truths, selective editing, and implied wrongdoing is exactly what's needed. ----------------------------------------------------- Bush To Iraqi Militants: 'Please Stop Bringing It On' - The Onion "Moore's prominent presence in the news brings to light some serious questions, such as 'Can't he at least try to look presentable?'" - The Onion

Brit wrote: When foreigners see it, they are motivated to hate the US in general. Yes, the dumb, brainwashed sheep will think that. But that's what they already think anyway because that's what their great government has engrained in their little brains since birth. The wise ones will see it as more Chinese government propaganda against the West and will envy the fact that in America people can publicly say negative things about their government without being thrown in jail, beaten, or killed. C'mon, I dare you to do with your glorious government what Michael Moore has done with the current US administration. Until you grow the balls to speak negatively about your own government you have no right to criticize ours.

Alvaro Mendez wrote: I dare you to do with your glorious government what Michael Moore has done with the current US administration. I am criticizing my glorious government (the US government, that is ;P ) by agreeing with Michael Moore on some of the things. Because of that, I must be a Chinese citizen, right? It just shows that you are as narrow-minded as some of the other right-wing extremists on this forum. Now, before you make another wrong assumption and call me a leftist liberal or a communist, let me tell you that I don't care much about them either. However, I dislike GWB the most at this moment.

Stan Shannon wrote: Compared to what? China's proud history of promoting human rights? The courage of the Chinese people in defending human rights? Note that you used the phrase "Chinese people", not Chinese government. I don't need to speak for China because I am a US citizen, but I do think you are a racist, no more and no less. You take every opportunity to attack other cultures and other people. If I remember correctly, you even defended slavery in your previous posts. You are proud of it. Come on, admit it, you know you want to.
