Team USA beats Russia 2-0 in exhibition

Speaking of Comrades! "Now that the preliminaries are over, Team USA appears ready for the World Cup of Hockey. John-Michael Liles arrived just in time and scored a goal, and Brett Hull added a power-play goal to lead the defending champion Americans to a 2-0 victory over Russia on Friday night in their final World Cup exhibition game. "I'm pleased with where we are, but we have a lot of room for improvement," U.S. coach Ron Wilson said. Goaltender Robert Esche[^] was brilliant in the final two periods, stopping 22 shots after Rick DiPietro shut out the Russians in the first 20 minutes, facing six shots. Esche and DiPietro did not give up a goal in the Americans' three exhibition games, answering critics who considered goaltending the U.S. team's weakest position. Esche preserved the shutout by holding off a three-man advantage - the Russians pulled goalie Maxim Sokolov after two U.S. penalties - over the final 30 seconds." http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/hockey/aphockey_story.asp?category=2041&slug=HKO%20World%20Cup%20Russia%20US[^] Later, JoeSox "You're never too old to become younger." - Mae West CPMCv1.0 ↔ humanaiproject.org ↔ joeswammi.com/sinfest

Or do the teams switch sides at the half ? Maybe that makes sense. I watch(ed) a lot of football and I think it would be nice behind the opposition's goal. That way you can see your team coming forward in attack. (If you supported someone like Arsenal, www.arsenal.com[^] that would be awesome. This is as the Bard once said "Much ado about nothing". Hey - wake up - its Boston/Yankees time - its A's/Angels/Texas time ( we don't really count the National League Teams ) - its fall - its baseball season - smell them dogs. And for those who prefer a game with a little less nuance football is starting - both college and pro. So who cares about a bunch of wanna be figure skaters slapping a rubber ducky thingy across a froze over basketball court dressed up like Mamu of the North while the fans keep waiting for a fight to break out. Now I know that most of our international friends don't understand either game but thats their loss - not ours. Football - baseball - sports where men are men and so are the women. Anyone who plays hockey or goes to the games and pays those prices should be put on the National Terrorist Watch List or something. It ain't American to watch hockey during the fall baseball season. Couldn't get to the Netflix thing, they had an interesting entry trap. To continue though; We wanted tickets to a hockey game an bought those in advance, the tickets were for the game to be played at X:00 o'clock on day Y. Couldn't believe our luck. Went in with a voice and full wineskin, left with no voice and no wine. Hockey is a game where while skating around aimlessly an occasional fight breaks out between 3 or 4 people who are so stupid that they throw their clubs away and take off their helment before fighting. That's transatlantic hockey post-Gretzky era for ya. NHL should really do something to promote playing hockey rather than fighting. If you look past the occasional fights, hockey really is the coolest game on earthTM. You won't find any sport with such an excellent mix of speed, action and strategy. Basket ball maybe. -- Arigato gozaimashita!

Fotball (american) and baseball, sports where nothing is happening but breaks, if you just watched when something was actually happening the games would last about 2 minutes. /Magnus
- I don't necessarily agree with everything I say
And chess is just souped up checkers - right. Baseball is probably the most intense game there is ( in professional sports ) if you have an understanding of the stratgic process of the game. Football is basically a chess game with each side getting a move and a counter move. But it takes years to understand either well and it takes actually playing the sport on a competitive level to reach a true understanding - in particular baseball. Europes worst nightmare would be for the US to develop a real interest in soccer - just think about our atheletes that are playing baseball, football, and basketball as soccer players- wipeout !!!!! Maybe I could agree with you on this. It depends entirely on my patience to learn the sport. :-D Rugby isn't very popular in Sweden, so it's hard to get to know the sport, unless you practice it. -- Arigato gozaimashita!

Rugby is popular is in very few countries, indeed. Rugby is a collective fighting sport, not that far from a war, but with strange notions as honor for example. The rules are many, and change often, so it's hard to understand at first how it's played. Here's a beginner's guide.
