Why do they put power plugs on the side of laptops? Why not the back???:~ Later, JoeSox "I believe in looking reality straight in the eye and denying it." - Garrison Keillor CPMCv1.0 ↔ humanaiproject.org ↔ joeswammi.com/sinfest

My Sony's power plug goes in the back. So did my old Compaq. And does my manager's Dell. Which brand are you talking about ?! I think your HP is in the minority because even my 19voetsek Mecer has the power thing in the back. Sure you aren't plugging the power into your ethernet port? ;) regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Jörgen Sigvardsson wrote: "Gassho rei, Watson-san!" Crikey! ain't life grand?

I had a roommate, bless her artsie soul, who plugged her USB printer into the network port. I corrected the problem, and told her that that plug doesnt go into that port. And yet, 2 days later, she needs help again, and guess what? She put the printer plug back into the NIC, and was wondering why she couldnt print. <shakes head sadly> The kindest thing you can do for a stupid person, and for the gene pool, is to let him expire of his own dumb choices. hehe, poor thing. Though the real lesson is for hardware manufacturers; Don't make cables that can be plugged into incompatible ports. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Jörgen Sigvardsson wrote: "Gassho rei, Watson-san!" Crikey! ain't life grand?

True, to a certain degree.. If you try right now to do it, you'll find the NIC is so much larger than the USB plug, AND that the plug needs to go in at an angle AND that you need to *jam* it in there a bit. So, it's not as easy as, say, putting the USB plug into the USB port. <evil grin/> A few years ago, my friends and were joking about some people getting the keyboard and mouse PS/2 ports confused (even with the somewhat-difficult-to-read icons next to the ports), and we made a comment that soon manufacturers were going to color-code everything in a computer. Sure enough, purple and green-coded PS/2 ports are now standard. I'm still waiting on a hot-pink video card. :-D The kindest thing you can do for a stupid person, and for the gene pool, is to let him expire of his own dumb choices. hehe yeah, USB into NIC is the users fault. But take the RJC cable for the NIC and the plug coming from the telephone jack. I myself have plugged telephone ends into NICs and wondered why the hell the network wasn't working. The cable ends are pretty much the same (I realise the cabling can be used for both but the endpoints need to be different surely). >I'm still waiting on a hot-pink video card My Radeon something or other is bright pink :-D Also the AGPX4 slot is green or blue or something, not brown or grey like the PCIs. It's bright red in my co-workers machine. But then his mobo is bright yellow. Weird looking in new PCs these days. No safe, boring green and brown. >Sure enough, purple and green-coded PS/2 ports are now standard Now if only all the device manufacturers would colour code the damned cables! My kb has a grey plug and an old PS2 mouse I had was a different shade of green to the green on the back of my PC. All very confusing till I got a USB mouse. As for symbols which denote line-in, microphone in and speaker-out on sound cards...  regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Jörgen Sigvardsson wrote: "Gassho rei, Watson-san!"
