Well after all the drama of the last few days, the AP is announcing that Arafat is dead. Wonder if the Palestinian Authority will be able to get the money back that the SOB and his wife embezzeled? http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=VVRI4CA1IDTVUCRBAEZSFEY?type=topNews&storyID=6779761§ion=news[^] Uptight Ex-Military Republican married to a Commie Lib - How weird is that?

I hope that will lead to a change for the better, but I am not optimistic. Why would anyone waste time arguing with an accountant about anything? Their sole function is to record what happenned, and any higher aspirations are mere delusions of grandeur. On the ladder of productive contributions they are the little rubber pads at the bottom that keep the thing from sliding out from under you. - Roger Wright

Hopefully one of the guys that he appointed and then removed like Abbas will step up and fill the gap. It seems that all the guy has done for the last 4 or 5 years is impede any progress towards peace. I can't help but think he did it for his own political gain and money. Sadly, so do I. I can only hope to be mistaken... Why would anyone waste time arguing with an accountant about anything? It does not make sense to think that a man who spent all his life fighting the most powerful enemies is doing it for money. He could get 100 times more money working for the other side.

It seems his replacement has been active in peace negotiations over the years and was voted in unanimously so hopefully the transition will be smooth. Everyone involved there seems to be putting the palestinians ahead of their individual desires. I hope so. Elaine :rose: The tigress is here :-D

I don't care crap for Sharon and the hardline members of the Israeli government, but Arafat has done more to disenfrachise the average Palestinian than he has to help them. With charges of corruption and embezzlement and investigations of his wife's money laundering, it doesn't sound like Arafat was doing to bad at collecting cash. To bad he didn't spend some of it on his people. http://www.forbes.com/billionaires/free_forbes/2003/0317/049.html[^] Apparently the accounting changes in that article didn't really take hold as evidenced by these articles. http://www.worldtribune.com/worldtribune/breaking_10.html[^] http://www.tallahassee.com/mld/tallahassee/business/10130726.htm[^] Forget the poor old man image. I just hope the PLO faction can reign in Hamas and manage to avoid the inevitable power struggle. :~ It would be nice to see a group of people on both sides willing to really work towards peace. Uptight Ex-Military Republican married to a Commie Lib - How weird is that?

But isn't that what the Americans and the Israelis want? A crook controls all finances of the PLO, their movement is going nowhere. No amount of military force can achieve that. You got a lot to thank him for. ;P
