Eurocinema[^] will provide 20 hours of European movies for American audience. And so once again free market has made commercially available what no public TV was or is capable of - and the worst - it happened in America. Tomaz

Tomaz, I can go to my local public library in Phoenix[^] Arizona United States of America and borrow literally hundreds of non American movies on DVD without paying a direct fee. It's paid for by my taxes. I can even borrow movies made in the Soviet Union (and I have). Your point?? [edit] Added the Arizona, USA stuff so's Tomaz could not but be aware that I meant America. Removed the 'you know' since Tomaz obviously doesn't [/edit] Rob Manderson I'm working on a version for Visual Lisp++ My blog http://blogs.wdevs.com/ultramaroon/[^] -- modified at 11:33 Sunday 25th September, 2005

I really fail to see the point of your post, even when I put the brain on "Tomaz, the paranoid otter"-mode. -- Keep talking! You're the fool, I'm the preacher.

Funny you should use "otterly" like that. The reason I came up with "otter" is because it's a wordplay on Swedish. "Utter" means "otter" in Swedish. Since it's often used with adjectives such as "insane", etc, it's become kind of slang (at least with job colleagues of mine) to call someone or something "an otter" when they/it's out of the ordinary. :) -- Keep talking! I am amused by the fact that lefties are pretending not to understand the point of my post. Here's a hint.[^] It seems eurohochkultur, for which totalitarian European governments spent billions via government sponsored public media (which act as leftist ideology propaganda centers), government sponsored culture (buying loyalty to huge state and creating propagandists critical to any freedom initiatives), government sponsored movie production, etc. can be made into a commercial product - but the main argument for subventioning was always that people are dumb and that hochkultur can't be commercial - many times emphasizing "American barbarians" as an example of society without any culture. Ahh I see so all government sponsered public media is left wing and the supposed "American Barbarians" have actually shattered things by making some of the european government sponsered media available. right gotcha. O.K. couple of points 1, The majority of the people who are going to be interested in watching and paying for these films are by far the middle class left wing Americans. 2, Alot of these sorts of things tend to be references or remakes of past works which are considered classics, in England for example a large proportion of this is taken up with such characters as Dickens and Shakespeare and while Dickens by your standards will probably be considered a left wing reactionary Shakespeare has often been accused of sucking up to the royalty of the time and effectively writing propaganda that rubbishs other monarchs of ( his ) recent past that the current monarchs didn't particularly like. Richard the third anyone. 3, Personally and I'm speaking as someone with my incredibly left wing arts degree head on here I'd much rather watch Sin City, A Beautiful Mind, The Butterfly Effect, Steel Magnolias or The Color Purple than any of the films listed. Bloody barbarians huh? Whatya gonna do? pseudonym67 My Articles[^] "So keep that smile on your face. Have a drink to help you sleep at night. They got what they desired. Tomaž Štih wrote: Here's a hint.[^] When Mr Revels mentions "the sixteenth-century kings of France, [...] inviting Italian artists to their courts", does he realize it is public intervention, and that's because there was a State's will that 'Renaissance' could happen in France? Also, Mr Revel forgets to say that if painters of the 19th century had worked for commercial ambitions, there would be no Van Gogh, Modigliani or Cézanne. The writer is dishonest when he claims that "cultural exception" means nationalistic protectionism. "Cultural exception" means that artworks can't be measured by the so-called Laws of the Market only: Art is not a product by essence. What happens when there is no public funding: Despite the success of Kruh in mleko and No Man's Land, as well as earlier films such as Janez Burger's V leru (Idle Running, 1999) and Damjan Kozole's Porno film (2000), only one film was produced in its entirety by the national Film Fund last year because of insufficient funding, both from the state and also from other sources. A new Law on Cinematography is currently being drafted and should be passed at the end of 2002. But according to Emeršič, it is already being influenced by commercial interests. She is not hopeful that it will do anything but harm Slovene cinema. [^] Let's the rules of the market apply, and in five years there's no more slovenian production. What a success! Tomaž Štih wrote: the main argument for subventioning was always that people are dumb and that hochkultur can't be commercial You are arguing that quantity equals quality: It is saying that reality shows are the finest work ever. Waoh. I hope future generations won't consider "Survivor" as the artistic climax of the 21st century.
