In general you can't. You can request the recipient send you a receipt when they open your email, but there's no way to force them to do so. If you're using a web interface instead of an email app you might not have that option to begin with.

Why not send the email as HTML. Then insert a transparent 1x1 gif in the email. But, make the gif's src="" attribute point to an asp/aspx page so on the server you can log requests for the image. One problem though... MS Outlook and Express blocks the downloading of images in preview pane by default I think. Cheers and Good Luck Phi?

I know outlook does since I use it at work. Not sure on OE, my copy's set to do html->plaintext conversion before rendering, but IIRC before I found that feature it did load images automatically. Like requesting a receipt though, this is something that might or might not work, and the use of webbugs is considered rude, so I'd view it as an inferior option.

Both Outlook and Outlook Express block images by default. (And I think Hotmail has a mail bug blocker, too.)

hi i dont know how, but i have seen this type of use. whenever i send e-greeting through Santabanta.com, there i check a option which enable me to know when recipients opened the e-greeting. there must be some way to do that.
