I'm refering to your reply to me. I merely pointed to a link about the possible origins of the word "Allah" for Nish, and you come in ranting how the origin is irrelevent and restate your previous post. I know Muslims refer to God as "Allah". Whether you want to believe Christians and Muslims worship the same power or not is your deal. I wasn't talking about that. BW

Oh Yeah, it was a fun read. I'd also recommend "Good Omens" by Pratchette. Sorry about no clickety but the automatic clickety dosen't seem to work with Safari and I am feeling damn lazy :) Hey don't worry, I can handle it. I took something. Basically, religion merely serves as a basis for social organization. As human societies grew more complex, religioun provided the most logical way for humans to organie their daily lives, and define their relationships in ways that were beneficial to the largest number of indiviudals. Any set of princples around which human beings organize themseslves functions inherently as a 'religion'. That is why it is impossible to escape religion. Human beings will always need a means of setting standards and rules of conduct based upon some source of moral authority. You simple cannot maintain civilization without it. That is the irony and the impossibility of modern concepts of separation of church and state which really do nothing more than free the state up to assume the inherent responsibilities of the church - achieving just the opposite of what they were originally intended to do. "Patriotism is the first refuge of a patriot."

Thats a very strong statement, and probably wrong. Religion has almost nothing to do with the way society is organised and run in the UK (or very little to do with peoples lives), and it runs OK. Religion is about answering questions of life, and, giving a secure, parental like comfort to the ignorant scared people who cant face reality. Nunc est bibendum

Good question :) I guess on one hand I am amazed by the stuff he comes out with. The fact that he can be so opinionated but not have any knowledge to back it up suggests that he is just repeating something he has been hearing for a long time. I would like to think that maybe one day he will have reason to reconsider what he has been taught and having been exposed to people here that have different opinions he may be more likely to try and learn things for himself. And its just fun too
