Do the VCRs in your country have the rewind button pointing to the left or the right? If they are left pointing, does it seem odd to you? How about slide presentations online - the "Previous" button is always on the left. Does that seem counter-intuitive, or are you used to seeing your electronics and online presentations with left pointing "previous" and right-pointing "next"? I have always felt comfortable with left pointing previous buttons because when I read, I read from left to right and the "previous" word is to the left of the "current" word. Just curious!

Big brands may translate the manual, otherwise you're lucky to get quick start page. Terry O`Nolley wrote: How about slide presentations online - the "Previous" button is always on the left. Most sites use LTR arrows because they're too stupid to think how to do it properly.

As per this link[^], VCR's in right-left reading countries have opposite meaning i.e. left means forward and right means rewind. <JOKE> On the lighter side, if the VCR buttons are behaving abnormally (i.e. left = rewind...), then use it by turning upside-down. ;P </JOKE>

I took a user-interface course my senior year in college, and one of the stories I heard there was pretty funny. Apparently, a laundry soap company implemented a new marketting campaign in a middle-eastern area where written language was read right-to-left. Their marketting material had the normal stuff like 'See what [Company X]'s soap does to your laundry!', along with three pictures: a woman holding dirty clothes above a washing machine, a woman standing in front of a washing machine, and a woman holding bright, shiny, clean clothes above a washing machine. They were arranged in that order, left to right, so it looked to the locals (who were used to interpreting things right-to-left) like the woman put clean clothes into the washer and they came out dirty thanks to [Company X]'s soap. -- Russell Morris "So, broccoli, mother says you're good for me... but I'm afraid I'm no good for you!" - Stewy
