When were such comments made at a fund raising event attended by Republican presidential candidates? Key points to remember: 1) bin Laden was enemy number 1 for aboyt 9 months; after that, Bush said (paraphrasing) "I'm not giving much thought to him." He's still at large. 2) Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, had no weapons of mass destruction, was not a threat to anyone (except its own people), and had never launched an attack on the US. Our invasion of that country had nothing to do with the "war on terror".

Mike Mullikin wrote: Kinda makes me understand how despite GW's record, Kerry still can't get a decent lead in the polls. Exactly. And it is exactly because of this crowd that I find it so damned difficult to vote for a democrat. As a party, they have got to find some way to separate themselves from this kind of extremism. Forget Iraq, these guys don't like anything about the social and political traditions of this country and will do what ever it takes to re-package the entire country to be exactly the pile of crap they want it to be. As long as supporting a democrat means supporting that, I'll never support a democrat. Mike Gaskey wrote: for all you know it was the spook's husband who talked to Novack well that's the stupidest thing i've heard all day. if Wilson himself outed his wife, that would be a phenomenal scoop and it would've been conveniently leaked by one of the 5 or so reporters who were contacted to one of their colleagues. and, of course Bush, Cheney, Libby and the rest of the criminals wouldn't be speaking to the Grand Jury. but beside all that Novak himself said the information came from a "senior administration official". and that means someone in W or Cheney's staff, or a high-level cabinet member. Celebs Turn Out for Kerry-Edwards[^] Whoopi Goldberg delivered an X-rated rant full of sexual innuendoes against President Bush last night at a Radio City gala that raised $7.5 million for the newly minted Democratic ticket of John Kerry and John Edwards. Waving a bottle of wine, she fired off a stream of vulgar sexual wordplays on Bush's name in a riff about female genitalia, and boasted that she'd refused to let Team Kerry clear her material. ... Kerry could be seen laughing uproariously during part of Goldberg's tirade — and neither he nor Edwards voiced a single objection to its tone when they spoke to the crowd. They hailed the fund-raiser as a great event. Edwards said it was "a great honor" to be there and insisted, "This campaign will be a celebration of real American values." Kerry thanked all the performers for "an extraordinary evening," hailed the "great producers" — Harvey Weinstein of Miramax and Jann Wenner - and said "every performer tonight ... conveyed to you the heart and soul of our country." Kinda makes me understand how despite GW's record, Kerry still can't get a decent lead in the polls. Where did we go wrong that spam-sucking trailer trash is the best we can put in the whitehouse? Stan Shannon wrote: You are referring to the democratic party of JFK. THose guys no longer exist. Actually no. I am referring to the Democratic Party before, during and after JFK. Since you raise the issue of Kennedy, it is worth making the obvious point that since his time the Democratic Party, in common with virtually every other political party in the Western world (and most political parties outside the Western world) has moved to the left on social (read sexual) issues and to the right on economic issues. The role of the market is much less questioned now than it was in the 60s and there is correspondingly a much more critical view of the welfare state. I don't believe that is their goal but, even if it was, this would not "eradicate every last vestige of American culture". Given that there is a very substantial overlap between American and European culture, 100% adoption of (some version of) European culture would leave most of US culture intact. Its all a matter of perspective I suppose, but I disagree completely. The "left" has not yet finished its flirtation with Marxism and is still desperately trying to figure out some way to make it appear to work. In the US, the current tactic is to give Marxism a Jeffersonian face. Their power base remains dependency of large masses of people upon political systems. They cuold no more turn away from that basic political paradigm than a weed could turn away from the dirt it's growing out of. They might pay lip service to principles that appear market oriented on the surface, but it is only to stall for time until they figure out some way to get it all under the control of government. And, frankly, traditional American culture is in its entirity a repudiation of European culture. We are, and I hope always remain, the anti-Europe. (Which is precisely the reason the world at large has such a vested interest in undermining American conservatism - it is all that stands in the way of a complete reconquest of the world by Europe) "We have staked the whole of all our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God."
