Awe diddums have the UN gone and upset the big nasty Mericans again by saying that there little war was illegal so they feel that they need to have another round of UN Bashing? Just how long would the UN last if the US decided it had enough of its silly Eurocentric pandering and told it bye bye ? Other than the hookers working around the UN building who would care ? Does anyone other than France really think that the UN is needed or respected anymore by any of the countries that count ? I agree. The UN has become little more than irrelevant. How many times has Iraq, Israel, and Turkey violated a resolution? The US was removed from the Comission on Human Rights and replaced with Sudan and Sierra Leone. Syria, who is in violation of resolution 520 along with Isreal, is serving as the head of of the Security Council. By the way, did you know that Israel is the only state ineligible to serve on the Security Council? In fact, one could argue that anti-semitism pervades UN policy. Unconvinced? Compare the number of drafted resolutions condemning Israel as opposed to those condemning Palestinians. Do I really need to mention the lack of action regarding genocide in Rwanda and Sudan at this point? I guess it's not all bad though. Afterall UNICEF is doing some great work.

The UN has become nothing more than Europe's last pathetic little effort to maintain something that might be called 'global hegemony'. Kind of sad, really. Still, maybe we should help keep it propped up just to make them feel important. God only knows that if it helps prevent another tyrannical, European mad-man from trying to conquer the world, its worth a few bucks. "Benedict Arnold was a war hero too."

I think virtually every country in the world except for the US thinks that the UN is important. Given the diversity of countries in the world, the decisions (or non-decisions) of any international body are going to displease a lot of people. Almost every country bar the US accepts that reality and still thinks that international cooperation through diplomacy is a goal worth pursuing. John Carson "I believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute--where no Catholic prelate would tell the President (should he be Catholic) how to act, and no Protestant minister would tell his parishoners for whom to vote ... and where no man is denied public office merely because his religion differs from the President who might appoint him or the people who might elect him. - John F. Kennedy

Seeing as the Isreali military and government is officially sactioning the murder of Palestinians, it makes sense to officially tell them not to with a UN resolution. Since the Palestinian murderers are random terrorists who don't belong to an official government organization who do you send the UN resolution to in their case?
