Ready made software licenses
-
Is there a site or company that sells ready made software licenses. I plan to make a program that I will be selling on a web page. I ofcourse need a license agreement that the user has to agree on before using the software. Since I dont have a lot of money and really dont know if the program is gonna sell at all I dont want to spend $2000 on a lawyer to write it for me. But I thought there probably exist ready made licenses that can be bought and used. So is there?

Web and Software Development: A Legal Guide http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0873376455/qid=1102601558/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/103-9405950-0527045?v=glance&s=books[^] I did have the agreements I use reviewed by my attorney, but he thought they were pretty good. Of course he made a few small changes to justify the bill...

Get the book the other guy referenced, figure out what you want the license to say, and find one that will work. Whatever you do though, run it past your lawyer before you use it! You want someone to blame if there is a legal flaw in the license. (or ideally to prevent those flaws) Notice that I said your lawyer? If you don't have one, you really should. Running a buisness is not trivial. I know of more than one that failed because the owners didn't understand the law and messed something up. You need someone who can register the company for you. (get an accountant to review this too) A few hundred, or even thousand now can save you a lot in the future. If your product won't generate enough to pay the lawyer bills, several times over, don't waste your time selling it. This should be part of your buisness plan. (You do have one of those right?)
