Just too funny not to post: North Korea has launched an intensive media assault on its latest arch enemy - the wrong haircut. A campaign exhorting men to get a proper short-back-and-sides has been aired by state-run Pyongyang television. The series is entitled Let us trim our hair in accordance with Socialist lifestyle. ... It stressed the "negative effects" of long hair on "human intelligence development", noting that long hair "consumes a great deal of nutrition" and could thus rob the brain of energy. [What about short hair for women?] ... Tidy attire "is important in repelling the enemies' manoeuvres to infiltrate corrupt capitalist ideas and lifestyle and establishing the socialist lifestyle of the military-first era," the radio says. Newspapers too highlight the civic advantages of short hair and smart shoes. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/4157121.stm[^] ----------------------------------------------------- Empires Of Steel[^]

That's ridiculous. Einstein had that weird hair style and in all the pictures of Newton you see him with that uncomfortable looking mane-style hair. Consuming nutrition, indeed "One of the Georges," said Psmith, "I forget which, once said that a certain number of hours' sleep a day--I cannot recall for the moment how many--made a man something, which for the time being has slipped my memory."

Nation with style like this[^] will of course prosper! I am awared that people dressed like that are not only in North Korea ;) best regards, David 'DNH' Nohejl Never forget: "Stay kul and happy" (I.A.)

I feel so sorry for the NK public. After all these yrs of hearing such state sponsored trash they must have a totally warped sense of reality along with the malnutrition. - Its a shame the US is to tied up in other places to go in and kick their butts. :-) Regardz Colin J Davies The most LinkedIn CPian (that I know of anyhow) :-)

I refuse to make a disclaimer for this, so take it as you will. Long hair, short hair, all hair, no hair - they all look the same to me. Even when they bleach/dye their hair they still look identical. With Asians, Africans, Indians, Jamaicans, Eastern Europeans... I can't tell Dick from Harry (or Henrietta for that matter). I read once that the way we recognise people is to store what facial variances they have from a core face in our minds, and the bigger the variation is the more space it stores in your address book for you to remember it and so the less attention is paid to smaller details. That's why the baddies in kids films all have big scars. If you grow up in a mixed race area chances are you will be able to identify other people more easily than people who grow up in largely same-race areas. So to me, for example, James is round faced, red hair, short nose, small ears, narrow eyebrows, single chin, and has a small scar under his eye, whereas Peter is black, has large mouth and big eyes. It becomes somewhat easier with sterotypes because then individuals can inherit from another stored identity. In that sense it's not faces either. I find facial regconition of different races really difficult unless I am close to someone of that race.

All rather sad I think. The propensity of human beings to make themselves stupid by the adoption of bogus belief systems is a tragedy. Whether or not North Koreans have long hair is of no great importance, but the general mindset that gives rise to such a campaign is disastrous. John Carson Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious. I always thought that hair grew anyway, regardless of how often the owner has it cut short. If there were any truth in that point... how intelligent would I be, if my hair was short? Before and after my last visit at the haircutter's I took photos of my mirror, to check the change. Here's my hair four months go, before/after my lates try to keep it at a "human" length: photo ^ _________________________________ Vote '1' if you're too lazy for a discussion

I thought maybe they were claiming that the entire length of hair required nutrition (e.g. 10 inches of hair requires twice the nutrition of 5 inches of hair). In reality, hair is dead, so it consumes no nutrition. ----------------------------------------------------- Empires Of Steel[^]

You obviously could improve your code with a good haircut, I'm surprised your employer permits it. :-) Regardz Colin J Davies The most LinkedIn CPian (that I know of anyhow) :-)

Wow, nice hair. If I ran a country I would make it illegal for women to have short hair ;) My ex had waist-length hair once too and it looked great, now it is a bob and... *sigh* just not the same. regards, Paul Watson South Africa The Code Project South-East Asia Disaster: How you can help Pope Pius II said "The only prescription is more cowbell.
