with dial-up modem on new HP
-
i have already sent an email to HP help and support but i have never have any luck with those type of support. so just to increase my chances of solving this problem i, going to tell you exactly what i told them It is a HP Pavilion a820n with Windows XP Service Pack 2 i purhcased it from office depot on Jan. 8, 2005 it was the very last one in stock (the one on display) I have not added any new hardware. and everything else seems to work fine, except for the modem. when i installed MSN 8 internet access, everything worked fine, the modem dialed the tollfree number and got the information needed, but when i open it up to connect it says that the modem is in use (which it is not), or it has not been installed (and it has), sometimes it will just say there was a problem with MSN and not mention the modem. the modem is installed on COM 3 though COM 3 does not show up under the COM Ports, in the Device Manager, but the modem shows up under modems. Also when i try to set up a normal dialup connection, when i get the dialog that asks what type of connection i want to use (Normal Dial-up, DSL, or Cable) the only option thet is enabled is Cable, the other two option buttons(Dial-Up, and DSL) are disabled, so i cant set up a connection that way. currently i am using my old computer to get on the internet.
