Don't ya just hate it when ...

You take the time and effort to post a reply to someone's question and they don't take the time and effort to post a reply that indicates your suggestion worked or did not worked? I mean, people come to this forum to get help, but then most are too sorry to bother to give something back to the community by allowing other people to find out that there was a solution to their problem or to at least find out what does not work. I just hate that... Robert

It is a bit lacking in courtesy, but it's possible they got wrapped in finally getting through their roadblock and forgot to come back to say "thanks that worked". Or maybe they never implemented your suggestion at all because they found some solution in the meantime. Or maybe they are just rude. Either way, just shrug it off, man. Much easier to be pleasantly surprised by someones manners than to be upset your expectations weren't met by them. BW

-Days of the NewYes, it could be they just got busy. But in most cases I doubt that's the reason. ;-) But with me it's really not an expectation. I've posted on this kind of forum in the past, and it's always been the same. So I already know to expect that maybe 1 person in 10 will actually come back and respond on their outcome. What's different about this forum is they've actually provided a forum section (i.e this one) where you can rant about all the ingrates. LOL Robert

Hi, I need some help from time to time, and if I can (don't forget it :() I say thank you, however not always, but I do try to help others in my turn. I rarely get a confirmation or thank you either, but why bother? I don't help them because I need thank you. :-). but I agree that if everybody would be a little nicer (myself included) it would be a better place to live in. i don't hate it, but i would appreciate it if i had some feed back... in the end it helps me to help you more... you post problem i reply with possible solution you say, "nope, didn't work" i reply with another possible solution you say, "nope, didn't work" i reply with another possible solution you say, "worked!" i now know the solution to the problem too, so if someone else has that same problem, i can help them too. -- Raoul Snyman Saturn Laboratories e-mail: raoul.snyman@saturnlaboratories.co.za web: http://www.saturnlaboratories.co.za/ blog: http://blog.saturnlaboratories.co.za/ linux user: #333298

Often I invite the OP to respond when I try and help them in a forum by rounding off my answer with "Does this help?" I recon I get a better response rate. I know if it helped and if not it invites a discussion to get to the bottom of the problem - sometimes I know that when I am in a hurry that I might not give as full an answer as I'd like, and if I revisit it later I can see that they are unlikely to have understood a high level answer, but if they have not responded I don't know if they really did understand it, or if they just thought "This answer blows, I'm not coming back here with ass holes like that". Does this help?

I hate it when someone reports a "bug" in one of my articles that does not show up on my end, so I take the time and effort to fix it, post my changes, ask if it works and get no response. So now I sit and wonder and my fix worked or not:confused: It seems like many people come here for free code, but could not be bothered to help make the code better:sigh:

I post here to try to be helpful, because I want to, because I like to. I don't really care that much about thanks - although it is nice. To be brutally honest, the best part of getting a "thanks that worked great" is the public albeit very minor ego massage. LOL. I hate it when I don't get that, LOL. But seriously, well more seriously anyway .... I post a question after I've looked at the MSDN, search a forum, and just can't seem to get what I need. I think usually the people who follow up are the ones who've actually made an effort already to solve their own problem. I guess what bugs me about it is that I think most don't bother, but I do, so I would like to see the followups not just to mu posts but to other people's posts too, because I actually look first. :-) Robert
