Happened to be watching internet TV on winamp the other day. The socialist channel was playing something called "Saddam Our Father". Thought that was a bit strange, so I took a look. It's "broadcast" out of Havana, Cuba. Basically, it was music mixed with images of Saddam Hussein and dancing Iraqis. (And Cuban news in english overlaying the "movie".) I'm guessing this was the sort of thing broadcast on Iraqi television during Saddam's rule. (If you think there's nothing good on TV, having this stuff brings "nothing good on TV" to a whole new level.) Seemed a bit odd that Cuba would be so fond of Saddam. "Enemy of my enemy...", I guess. ----------------------------------------------------- Empires Of Steel[^]

my prediction: in 30 years, grungy-but-trendy hipster bars will be showing that video on loops in the bathrooms - the same way they're currently hanging wacky Work Harder Comrade! propaganda posters from the 60's USSR and China. Image Toolkits | Image Processing | Cleek

The Cuban government is fond of anything they think will make the US look bad. It's tough to measure who's the worse dictator, Saddam[^] or Fidel[^]. The problem is that one is on the other side of the planet while the other is 90 miles south of the US and has been in power for the last 46 years! Regards, Alvaro

I was going to make a joke about dictators, human rights abuses, regime change and lack of oil money, but it's too easy -- like fishing.. in a barrel.. with dynamite.

Well, yes, but many people would perceive rallying behind Saddam Hussein as degrading your own reputation more than the reputation of the country you're propaganda is aimed against. <understatement mode& Yeap, I'm not sure people in Cuba have the same perception as we have about World affairs. I suspect their access to information may be a little bit controlled and the data they get be distorted... </understatement mode&

Yup, that's one of the reasons Cuba might not see things that way. ----------------------------------------------------- Empires Of Steel[^]
