Interesting indeed by putting in perspective what Israel is, however I wonder if the author isn't a little bit partial when he says that "The Israeli faith in democracy also explains their refusal to respond to Islamist terrorism in violent ways", he might forget that during the second intifada the ratio of palestinian casualties vs israeli ones is over 2 to 1. Also, in his conclusions, when he says that "only an Israel can keep this earth from dying", I wonder how he can justify it? Is there any data of the financiel help received by Israel especially from US private funds? Anyway, IMHO the problem with Israel is with its behaviour outside its borders: the settlements, the annexation of Palestinian lands, the expulsions.

By generalizing: You consider people over their religious belief, not as individuals. IMO, by saying jews instead of "some jews", you make the same mistake than people saying "muslims" instead of "some muslims" when talking about islamists. Are all Jews fanatic settlers? Far from that.
