Hello, I am having a strange problem, when I install Service Pack 2 (for Windows XP), It installs fine, but when I click finish and restart Windows, It gets stuck on the logo screen. I tried to run in safe mode to check if it could work, but it gets stuck when loading "Mup.sys"... I have formatted my HDD 2 times. Also, someone told me that PCI cards some times conflict SP2, I only had a LAN card, which I removed before Installation, but no success.... It would always get stuck on "Mup.sys" and won't go further, leaving me only the option to re-install OS. System Configuration is: ------------------------- Genuine Intel Pentium 2.4 GHz Intel 865GBF Main Board (Sound + VGA Built in) 256 RAM 400MHz (Kingston) 120 GB Seagate Internal HDD Sony DVD Combo Drive Can anyone tell me what's going on? - A programmer's national anthem; "AAAAAHHHHH!!!!"

Congratulations! You've drawn the short straw! It seems that when SP2 goes wrong it goes wrong big time! I applied SP2 back in March after delaying it for ages. I have an AMD 64 machine. It got stuck in a reboot loop. I could get into safe mode but couldn't uninstall or do a system restore. I did eventually obtain a registry patch for an SP2/AMD64 bug. This allowed me to boot - but very very slowly. Then many apps. would either start very very slowly or not at all. Tried doing some manual fixes and then could not even get into safe mode. But by that time my PC maker had sent me a new integrated XP SP2 disk with instructions for rebuilding from scratch. I then installed exactly the same apps. and drivers I'd had before and evrything worked fine! It seems that there are three different versions of SP2. 1. XP SP2 integrated 2. SP2 via Windows Update (what I tried) 3. SP2 from CD. 2. and 3. are definitely different because the initial bug fix I obtained for the AMD problem was only applicable to scenario 2. I get the impression that 1. is the most robust way of getting to SP2. Are you able to rebuild your PC up to XP SP1? If so, I'd stop there and then search the web for updated drivers and so on. Kevin
