What kind of lion do you think it represents? The old, wounded, violent lion who still has bite or the king of the jungle in his prime; wise, magnanimous, fair but firm. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry! K(arl) wrote: oh, and BTW, CHRISTIAN ISN'T A PARADOX, HE IS A TASMANIAN!

Personally, I took it as one who lives for what (s)he believes is right, even if it means dying for those beliefs. The sheep being the weak who lives long, but lives in fear of persecution of their beliefs. My mom told me once that "while we all don't speak the same language, everyone in the world undestands an asskicking"

I, for my part, would defend myself. But I would not attack them just because they are threatening me. Cheers, Sebastian -- Contra vim mortem non est medicamen in hortem.

People are hijacking planes and crashing them into buildings, blowing up trains and nightclubs, kidnapping and executing civilians, etc... These are not merely threats!!! Better to live one day as a lion than a hundred years as a sheep.

IMO the lion represents a leader or a person of action, the sheep represents a mere follower and a person of inaction. No more, no less. Better to live one day as a lion than a hundred years as a sheep.

I agree that those are not threats. And I have no problem with military actions against those responsible. However, I firmly believe that one innocent bystander killed is one too many. That is, because they did not choose to take a risk, but the risk was put on them. If there is someone who says "I will lure them out and you can blow me up along with them", that is his choice. Decisions like that are noble and deserve to be accepted. If, however, there is an innocent civilian in a bus of terrorists, blowing the bus up will, IMHO, not result in a "collateral loss", but cold-blooded murder. Even if Bin Laden was in there, it wouldn't change a darn thing. That, however, is my opinion. And as things are, democracies cannot respect the opinion of every single citizen. I accept that, but it will never change my feelings. Cheers, Sebastian -- Contra vim mortem non est medicamen in hortem.

Noble but not too realistic. Would you trade one innocent life to save thousands of innocent lives? When is there enough proof of such a predicament? These are the hard questions that our governments, security agencies and military deal with everyday. Bollocks, it was Mussolini, nothing old about it. Its a typical statement from the faschist show off that Mussolini was. He was also full of crap. For example, the great Italian Military show of the 30's had hundreds of planes lined up on parade. Only two had engines. That is typical Mussolini, all show and no substance, and this saying is just more of the same. Nunc est bibendum

While Mussolini may have quoted it, the proverb goes back centuries.

Don't get your panties in a twist - it's a proverb used in a forum sig, not my life's mantra. Better to live one day as a lion than a hundred years as a sheep.
